I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

Original post by MrHostility

At least that's what people tell me. Me and LovelyL are never going to find something that suits us. Every place is now such a great disappointment, because there are so few places left to look.

Today we looked at East Wind. We really liked the property(what we could see in the dark) but we disliked the cocktail room that Country Garden uses. We also weren't crazy about the decor, but given the name we should have thought about that before hand.

Perhaps the biggest setback is the fact that L called Jericho Terrace and they said the best they can do for the room up from the basement is 130 guarentee, instead of 150. Then they said we would be charged Saturday night prices instead of Friday night, because they were dropping the 150 to 130. Well if you do the math on both quote, before tax and service, it's a $200 difference. ($80pp Sat, $72pp Fri) After you add tax and service, it comes out to $600 savings. Big deal, thanks for the help, Frank. I feel mostly bad because L loves that place, and now I really doubt it's going to be there. I want her to be happy, but I'm weirdly against the small room there.

It's also bumming us out that we don't have more than 100 people to come to our wedding. We feel like everyone else has these huge weddings with tons of people. I haven't heard one person tell me(in real life) their wedding is under 150 people. That really f's up the choices you have when it comes to rooms, etc.

Sorry for the vent, but it was just another fustrating night of going nowhere.

I just wanted to say that I am sure you will find a place. My FI and I had a tough time also because we dont want the wedding to be more than 75-80people. I would suggest the MC but I know you said in an earlier post that you werent thrilled about it. Have you tried going on to the weddingsitesandservices website? Maybe there will be something listed there that you haven't thought about. Good Luck in your search and I hope you find a place soon.

Don't forget the Vanderbilt mansion at Dowling College. It's a beautiful place, perfect for smaller weddings. I don't know if it fits your price range, but definately give them a call. If you do a search on here you'll see that the Vanderbilt has gotten awesome reviews. (And I'm a Dowling College graduate so I can tell you for sure that it's a lovely place!)

You should check out Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling collge. That is a BEAUTIFUL place and my husband and I really wanted our wedding there but we did not like the caterrer that they had there at the time. Now its being run by Lovin' Oven (the ones that own Flowerfield and Lands End).

the room will only hold 140 people at the most so your 100 or so people will be perfect. You can even have the ceremony right htere on site if you choose

Here is the website. I woudl definatly check it out if I was you! You never know!!

Sorry for your disappointments

I'm a big fan of Chateau Briand of course b/c I got married there, but they are reasonable and do have a room for your 100 ppl. It's the Saturnia I believe.

THe other Scotto halls are beautiful also and also have rooms w/low minimus so give them a look too:

Westbury Manor
Fox Hollow

Here is the Scotto Brothers website, you can get info on all 3 halls:

The East Wind also has a smaller room in the INN it self that could probably hold that amount of people, It is upstairs.

Re: I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

We had a smallish wedding and here are places we were considering (that I don't think are on your list):

Stewart Manor CC - we only had to guarantee 100 people.
Watermill - simply gorgoeus place!
Swan Club - beautiful grounds.
La Grange Inn - they were planning a renovation when we were looking 3 years ago.

Good luck!

Definitely check out the Sand Castle -- if you liked Jericho, you might like it there too. And IMO, their smaller room is much nicer (but I'm biased! )

Also, check out Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst. Just my opinion, but I don't know if you'll be thrilled with the smaller room at Larkfield if you felt weird about the smaller one at Jericho.

Good luck, I know this part can be tough.

Westbury Manor is very nice, my friend had her wedding there and it was less then 100 people. They know what they are doing, the grounds are beautiful, and they have a separate room for the cocktail hour. I have heard that they are very reasonable too.

check out Lessings.com

they have a bunch of nice facilitys and they are very reasonable and you don't need alot of people to gurantee ...ours will only end up being 90 people...but we are fine with that...

Good luck!..you will have your place!

Re: I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

We were in a similar situation.
You have a lot of great suggestions!
Here were my impressions when looking (feel free to use/disregard anything lol!):

Vineyard caterers (where we are getting married) is beautiful, and I guaranteed 80 for a Sat Aft. they are wonderful.
Villa Lombardis: Great (our 2nd choice) - but they could only accomodate us (b/c of small size) on a Sunday afternoon (75 min).
Miller Place Inn: Needed 100 person guarantee (maybe a little lower for Friday, don't remember). got great referrals tho.

We also considered Danford's (Port Jeff), Capt. Bills of Bayview. They were accomodating to our size.

FI keeps reminding me we saw a slew of places (i'm sure the torture is forever ingrained in his memory), but these are the ones that stick out to me. Have faith you'll find it!!

Good Luck!

Ours will be be about 75-90.
I was looking for small AND one wedding at a time, so it was tough, but I went witht eh forst place we saw, b/c it was unweddinglike to me and that's what we wanted.
I don't mind the cocktail hour being in the same room as the dinner, but I know that some people do.

We might be able to have it outside if its warm enough.
The Geroge Washinton manor is owned by the same people, but I think the guarantee is a little higher. 100, or 110, as opposed to 75, but I'm not sure . I didn't call them.

I was just going to suggest Vanderbilt Mansion, but I see someone else mentioned it. I think that room is the perfect size for your amount of people, and it's GORGEOUS! We loved it, but it was too small for our 130 pp.
