I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

Original post by MrHostility

At least that's what people tell me. Me and LovelyL are never going to find something that suits us. Every place is now such a great disappointment, because there are so few places left to look.

Today we looked at East Wind. We really liked the property(what we could see in the dark) but we disliked the cocktail room that Country Garden uses. We also weren't crazy about the decor, but given the name we should have thought about that before hand.

Perhaps the biggest setback is the fact that L called Jericho Terrace and they said the best they can do for the room up from the basement is 130 guarentee, instead of 150. Then they said we would be charged Saturday night prices instead of Friday night, because they were dropping the 150 to 130. Well if you do the math on both quote, before tax and service, it's a $200 difference. ($80pp Sat, $72pp Fri) After you add tax and service, it comes out to $600 savings. Big deal, thanks for the help, Frank. I feel mostly bad because L loves that place, and now I really doubt it's going to be there. I want her to be happy, but I'm weirdly against the small room there.

It's also bumming us out that we don't have more than 100 people to come to our wedding. We feel like everyone else has these huge weddings with tons of people. I haven't heard one person tell me(in real life) their wedding is under 150 people. That really f's up the choices you have when it comes to rooms, etc.

Sorry for the vent, but it was just another fustrating night of going nowhere.

Our Reception is at the Sand Castle. They have a beautiful room the fits up to 150 people. I know the prices are pretty reasonable. Im not sure of what they are now but they were really good when we booked in 02.
I am sure you will find a great place.

I second the Miller Place INn. It's really quaint and very pretty. Will accomodate a smaller size and cocktail and reception in separate rooms.

Have you thought about Brentwood Country Club? It's all-inlcusive, but you can pick and choose and they'll credit you if you don't want to use their photog or something like that. it's extremely reasonable. I was at a wedding there in 2000 ( iwas the MOH) and it was fabulous!

Also Port Jeff Country Club is being taken over by Villa Lombardi's and is under renovation, but they're taking bookings for next year already. You might want to give them a look

Oh, and there is a new place that's being built in MT. Sinai--don't know you're geographical location, but you seem to be all over the place I think they're a vendor onhere.

Good luck!

I also saw a lot of places, and these were the ones I came close to booking:

-Westbury Manor - really beautiful, but was a tad out of our price range

-Stewart Manor Country Club - great place also, but I wanted more food for cocktail hour which you can add at not too much price anyway. And you are the only wedding there. Shrimp cocktail included also, you're not paying more for it, though I don't know how much is served.

Don't worry.

You'll find something!

Did you try the Swan Club?

I wasn't happy that with the Milleridge Inn Cottage House (you need higher minimum for the cottage or whatever it is which was beautiful) is if you have it there when it's cold or raining, the cocktail hour is outside, so if you can't do it out there, you have to do it inside at the dinner tables.

I invited 200, and it wound up that i just met my minimum of 120. I loved it, at first I was upset, but it was the most important people that were there. We felt that it was big even though we had been to much bigger weddings.

Also keep looking around, don't settle on a place, you will eventually find one.

Where else have you looked?

Hey, your icon there is our cake topper! :D We got it from my mom as an engagement gift. Since we were engaged in Disney World we found it perfect.

Posted on the first page, a list of about 15 places we have been. It's not even that going and looking is a pain, or difficult. Just you want so much for the place you are going to stun you, and be 'it'.

I tried to convince my mom I wanted a wedding on the beach in Tahiti, or somewhere like that. She got all pissy, and said nobody can afford to come.

I was going to suggest the Beach Club -I see it is on your list. We have been there for several functions and it is wonderful

Also, the Chateau Briand is absolutly beautiful.

Try looking at George Washington Manor. The room there is really pretty.

And how did you get those prices from Jericho Terrace? I called them months ago about a Friday wedding in the winter months, no less so I thought it'd be cheaper, and the person on the phone told me that it'd be $100 pp., and I thought that was ridiculous.

I dunno, maybe if you go there it's cheaper? We really really like the Christmas Decor there, which is really the only reason we decided December was a nice month to have it. December was a lot cheaper than November. We could even do a Saturday night in December.

But Frank won't work with me, so I really doubt it's going to happen there.

You should check out Westbury Manor if you haven't b/c they have Christmas decorations up in December, and I heard it's really pretty.

If you like Christmas decor, then DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY go see the Milleridge Carriage House. They have a village there that looks like a mini Christmas village. OMG! It is AMAZING the way the decorate there!
Ask the girls on here about this place...one of the main attractions to the Milleridge Carriage House is how it's decorated for Christmas

Sorry you are having so much trouble with this. There is this expectation that this time in your life is all bliss and flowers, when in reality it can be extremely stressful (as you know), and certain times are pure hell (IMO)!

I thought chosing a hall was difficult, it does get easier after that though. Don't feel bad about having a smaller wedding! I think it will be much more personal than a wedding of 200 ppl, half of which you don't know.

Good luck with your search!

Have you checked out Timber Point Country Club? It's part Lessings, one at a time wedding, and it's being renovated.

My guarentee is 85 people because we are inviting about 120, but I didn't want a guarantee of 100.

I am paying about $82.00 (this is includes taxes and grat) per person for a Friday night wedding.

btrflyfrl who is on this site is having her ceremony and reception there too. She will be the second wedding after the renovations.

Why we picked TP:
1. One at a time wedding
2. We loved the layout
3. They worked with pricing per person and the guarentee
4. It's an historic estate (totally our style), which is being renovated this January(meaning new wall paper, new carpet, new dance floor, new french doors)
5. It overlooks the Great South Bay
6. The patio with the arbor where we hope to have our ceremony which overlooks the Great South Bay
7. The 2 fireplaces (one when you enter and one by the dance floor)
8. It's quaint, comfortable, warm, and open (because one wall is all windows).

Check it out, but talk to Ben or Michael (don't talk to anyone else, if you want to know why you can FM me)

I'm going to add Timber Point to our list too, thanks for the idea.

We are shooting to have ~100 people. I was so appalled and frustrated when we started looking. The prices, the minimum requirements, the packages, the time slots - GIVE ME A BREAK! What ever happened to pleasing the client? I mean, I know they have a business to run, but not all of us are into the 'cookie cutter' approach...

Given all the pros and cons we ultimately decided to have our reception at Louis XVI. To date, the service has been impeccable. The food is fantastic. The PEOPLE, not the location will make my day...

L went there for a year, she entitled it, 'Downling, the impersonal college, where nobody grows' lol

This is true. I keep telling L we'll be the ones who make the wedding awesome, not the place we have it. But that hasn't eased my nerves about the small room at JT. Onward and upward I guess, maybe it'll be one of the last places. Best things come to those who wait, eh?

Re: I thought this was supposed to be enjoyable...

You are so lucky if you're having under 100. That's what I wanted, a small wedding. We have 100 minimum, but I think we might be inviting 140, 150 because my fiance wants to invite so many people and his parents and my parents want to invite people too. I do hope we get a lot of people who decline to come, so it's small.
