I thought you only registered for weddings??????
Hi.Here is another chapter of my social life:
A coworker/friend of FH purchased a home. He invited us to his housewarming this coming Saturday. In the invitation is a registry from Macy's. So this means we have to purchase a gift from this registry???
Am I so out of the loop, that gone are the days when you could show up at someone's housewarming with a bottle of wine and a plant???
Please tell me is this acceptable????

And how did he register? Did he give his own name twice or something?

Hey girl
I got one of those invites too. This is coming from a friend who didn’t have a full, blown wedding and never registered before they got married. LONG story but they registered for their house warming. I found it weird too. I would have gotten them a gift anyway.
But don't force people to ya know?

Hey Wanda
This guy is single. Just purchased his own home, so I guess he is starting from scratch.
You are right, we would have gotten them a gift, but to pratically be told to do so does not sit well with me.

Re: I thought you only registered for weddings??????
I thought it was me. Someone told me we should register for our housewarming. I had never heard of that before so I thought I was the one that didn't know.I decided not to bc we will just be married a year and I feel like people just gave us gifts. I don't want to look like we are asking for gifts again.
I figure who wants to bring will bring.

That has to be the rudist thing I have ever heard of! I can't even imagine registering for housewarming...***??? Wow...just based on that, I either wouldn't go or I'd show up with an extension cord from Home Depot!

Re: I thought you only registered for weddings??????
Yeah, people register for everything these days... I hear people register for birthdays, etc! My sister's gfriend registered for Christmas, but only did it for my family because we kept bugging her about what she wanted for Christmas. As for the housewarming, I don't know. FH and I closed on our house in December. We didn't register for anything. In fact, we didn't have a housewarming bc we didn't want people to think we were looking for gifts.
When someone I know buys a house, I give them a gift cert to Home Depot usually. We've used every one we've gotten (as gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and even my shower) and are always so happy to get more. They come in very very very handy!

Re: I thought you only registered for weddings??????
OK, I get wedding registries, and am even OK with baby registries (although that did weird me out for a while) but a HOUSEWARMING registry? Seriously tacky. Just for that I'd 'regift' something with no gift receipt, no way of returning, etc.some people!!

Re: I thought you only registered for weddings??????
that is totally tacky. Like the saying goes you should never go to someones house empty handed that DOES NOT mean that you have to go out and buy something off of this persons registry. I see nothing wrong with a plant and bottle of wine or even a small token gift for the new home. But to register - come on - that is taking it too far.
