Haha maybe I shouldn't have posted my opinion on a board full of teachers. I wasn't expecting anyone to agree with me. It was just my vent to your vent.

The majority of my friends and family are teachers. I get very annoyed too out of jealousy for the time off. My friends aren't in high stress teaching positions. My BIL is a junior high art teacher for over 10 years. He told me teaching is the best part time job anyone could ever have. I could never be a teacher. I don't have the patience or personality. I appreciate every teacher and there hard work, espcecially all mine that brought me where I am today. But we all work hard. I would like off on any normal holiday like Columbus Day or Martin Luther King Day, but unfortunately the Big Guy doesn't care and I need to over bill my clients.

Non-teachers just don't get it. They like to hate on us b/c they are jealous of the time off. I would love to see them deal with what we deal with. Aside from the 26 five year olds in my class, I deal with abusive parents, neglectful parents, completely over-bearing, neurotic parents, ridiculously high demands from administration, & a language barrier with half of the families in my classroom...not to mention aaaaalll of the lesson planning, prep work, & other shi+ I have to bring home. If we didn't have the time off, we'd burn out in a couple years & not be successful at our jobs. Pisses me off. FH used to be guilty of bein a hater but now he realizes how much I deal with...especially this year.

Re: I wanna cry

Whoaa all I said was how upset I am that I have to go back after being off a week...
I should have not said the word 'teacher' in there and said my one week vacation lollll. I am sureeeeee ANYONE with a whole week off, would feel a little sad having to go back to work, not just teachers. Esp with so many of us needing that week to plan wedding stuff, etc...
and to that 'someone' I guess IF YOU CAN READ THIS: THANK A TEACHER!

Wow Blondie. Obviously I can read, or I wouldn't have been able to comment your first post.

And I never degraded what teachers did, or all the hard work that teachers do. But when you have so much time off a year, it is difficult to get sympathy from people who get two weeks off. Between July and August as well as the week for Christmas and the week in Feb. and the week around Easter/ Passover it is really difficult for a non teacher to relate.

Now look what you started. LOL To my fellow teachers, I don't think any of us need to stick up for ourselves here. Most people are just very ignorant to what we really do. My mom until this day swears that she had no idea how hard teachers worked until I become one. I absolutely love my job and to all you out there who want to complain about our job.....you had the choice for your career......if you're that angry about it go to college and try to be a teacher and then come back and try to say what you just said. Then I think you'll get it

Let me start this by saying that I have the utmost respect for teachers. BUT....

OK seriously, I have NO sympathy for teachers. You get off a total of 3 months a year.
And yes I know you don't make a lot of money and yada yada yada, but I have never met a group of people who have more time off and complain as much. (Including my mother who is a teacher.)

seriously? i have NO sympathy for people who don't understand what teachers go through

teachers very often work 8-10 hours at work, in a school building
then there's meeting and events and extra help, along with 24/7 checking of e-mails, and returning phone calls
and a lunch break? i ALWAYS have at least 5 kids in my room during any 'off' period that i have

i also bring home AT LEAST 2 hours of work a night-lesson plans, grading, planning...

we're also responsible for making sure that a large group of individuals are not only educated, but they also become good people, because a lot of times they don't learn it at all

don't forget-YOU wouldn't even have a profession if it wasn't for the teachers you had

so yes, we deserve our breaks..

very well said!!!!

BTW -- Teachers -- I am also a teacher and I don't get any of the vacations because my school goes year round AND we don't get weeks off...

I'm JEALOUS!!!! I NEED VACATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! But with that being said...I have no sympathy because I want what you have!

Re: I wanna cry

Everyone - no matter what kind of job you have - gets vacation time and it ***** in general, no matter how much or how less time you have off, when you have to go back and your vacation ends! Can we leave it at that and take away the drama ? Agree to Disagree? We are all friends here - trying to help eachother with our weddings!

Not one to get involved in the drama on these boards but had to say my peace in this!!

I am not a teacher but I am a social worker who has been lucky enough to get a position in a school...I live proof of the damands of working in a building full of children and see first hand the endless work that teachers have. I think all teachers recognize how great the school schedule is and no one takes it for granted but the best response to this is - everyone had an equal opportunity to become a teacher some just chose other career paths and that is no reason to make those in the profession feel guilty about their time off....

Enough said!

Totally agreed...I always respond with 'It's never too late to go back to school to become a teacher!'

Hope you all enjoyed your vacations.. I know I will not be super excited to go back Monday

I never get involved in this drama. For some reason this hit a nerve.
I am not a teacher and I LOVE my job. If you ask anyone or even search all of my post you will never hear me complain about my job. I personally don’t think it right for people to complain when their vacation is over when they have another vacation in 5 more weeks.

This thread is not about “I should have been a teacher” it about people complaining for no reason – no question about who works harder.

edit for typos
