No one feels bad for us because they worked this week...I've been trying to muster up some pity from FH all day (he has been working from home)...and I got nothing. LOL

Re: I wanna cry

Let me start this by saying that I have the utmost respect for teachers. BUT....

OK seriously, I have NO sympathy for teachers. You get off a total of 3 months a year.
And yes I know you don't make a lot of money and yada yada yada, but I have never met a group of people who have more time off and complain as much. (Including my mother who is a teacher.)

Yeah and don't forget all the work we take home b/c there's never enough time to finish it during the school day.

We work until June 28 (NYC), so we have 2 months, not three. We also bring home a lot more work than other jobs. HOURS of lesson planning and grading. Plus, my classes are insane this year. If I didn't have these breaks I would lose my friggin mind.

I am actually 95% sure I'm leaving the field after 4 years because I can't take it anymore. Trust me, the time off is needed, and we work our a s ses off. Sorry, this post just annoyed me a litt.e

Re: I wanna cry

Yeah, I wish she would see all the work load I bring home every weekend, and tests, writing, not to mention demands from the administration and getting kids to pass with a high score, while having to deal with parents, and going for a masters- still not making enough... and the 2 months we have off is spread out into our salary to begin with over the course of a year.

Re: I wanna cry

I have had this debate 100854765849368953 times!
I have a bunch of teachers in my family most of my friends are teachers and I am marrying a teacher - but teachers do have a tendency to complain about their vacations being over and for those people that work jobs that only give you 2 weeks vacation it is a little annoying when teachers complain.

My sisters husband is known for moping when his vacation is over and we have gotten into fights about this a bunch of times.

I truly understand that being a teacher is a lot of work and that you take work home, but most people who have other jobs usually work longer then their 9-5 hours and take work home too.

In no way is this to cause drama.

What I am trying to say is that until you have been a teacher or have had a so called '9-5 job' it is hard for people to understand each other place.

seriously? i have NO sympathy for people who don't understand what teachers go through

teachers very often work 8-10 hours at work, in a school building
then there's meeting and events and extra help, along with 24/7 checking of e-mails, and returning phone calls
and a lunch break? i ALWAYS have at least 5 kids in my room during any 'off' period that i have

i also bring home AT LEAST 2 hours of work a night-lesson plans, grading, planning...

we're also responsible for making sure that a large group of individuals are not only educated, but they also become good people, because a lot of times they don't learn it at all

don't forget-YOU wouldn't even have a profession if it wasn't for the teachers you had

so yes, we deserve our breaks..

Haha maybe I shouldn't have posted my opinion on a board full of teachers. I wasn't expecting anyone to agree with me. It was just my vent to your vent.

Re: I wanna cry

i agree, it suckss when a vacation ends (for ANYONE). but still, most people don't get the time you do off, and yes, even though they don't have to grade papers and do lesson plans they still have to take home work to do....

i work a regular 9-5 job in the city, rush my asss home to get to class for grad school (to become a teacher), still have to write papers and lesson plans, and don't get the vacation you do....

i think ppl will just get annoyed when they read this bc most people have been working all week while you haven't and it's friday so everyone's on edge and ready to get the f home already

ahhhh why can we say penis but not suckss

Re: I wanna cry

Non-teachers just don't get it. They like to hate on us b/c they are jealous of the time off. I would love to see them deal with what we deal with. Aside from the 26 five year olds in my class, I deal with abusive parents, neglectful parents, completely over-bearing, neurotic parents, ridiculously high demands from administration, & a language barrier with half of the families in my classroom...not to mention aaaaalll of the lesson planning, prep work, & other shi+ I have to bring home. If we didn't have the time off, we'd burn out in a couple years & not be successful at our jobs. Pisses me off. FH used to be guilty of bein a hater but now he realizes how much I deal with...especially this year.
