I want to Book

I want to Book

I am getting really scared about waiting to book our catering hall, since I'm noticing April is more popular then I thought. I called the Thatched Cottage to see if our date is still available. They told me that the last two weekends in April are booked except for our date (I feel like that is a sign). My problem is, FH really wanted to wait until 6-9 months before our date to save money on the cost of the catering hall (they say you can negotiate more the closer it is to your date, meaning we'll get a better deal pp), and I don't know if he'll budge. I plan to talk to him tonight and I'm real nervous, cause I really want to at least go there again and see if we can get a better deal. I just wish he'll say okay. I really, really love the Thatched Cottage.

Any advice on how to convince him???

i think if you explain to him that whether you wait to save money or book now, you're still going to spend/save the same amount of money, but the timing will be different. if you're set on that date, though, you'll have to move on it quickly. i hope he agrees! GL!!

Re: I want to Book

Usually deposits are not too much $$. We booked in Oct. for our July '09 wedding and so far have only paid $2000. You should definately book....that date will never stay open until 6 months before your wedding. Plus, without a RH, you will not be able to book any other vendors. You don't want to be scrambling and settling for vendors you are not thrilled with in the last 4-5 months before your wedding.

Hope you can convince him...good luck!

My friend is getting married there in April 09. It does book up quick & i think if you put a thousand deposit on your place you usually dont have the next installment until 2/3 months. Thats usually 2000.00. This maybe the place you love but is this place feasible for your bank account. Its a question you do need to ask yourself. I hope very much its a go for you guys. I wouldlove for you to book the place your heart is.

Best of luck!

Re: I want to Book

My wedding is November 6th of 2009 there. I dont know if this will help in getting your FH to book but... they normally require a $1000 deposit. and then $1500 for the next two months then nothing till 6 months before the wedding day. But since I booked so far in advance (last month) they only required the $1000 deposit and then worked with me to do $500 a month for the next 6 months instead of the two payments of $1500. So they are pretty good in working with you. Good luck!

I think you should book now. It's usually like a 1000 deposit to secure the date. Then the payments thereafter are usually spaced out which gives people a break.

I think if you have your heart set on one place then you should book ASAP because they will not hold the date for you unless you have a deposit. They'll only require a portion of entire bill so you won't have to save it all at once. I prefer this because you'll be paying it off as you go. You can still save for the final payment.

I would try and talk him into it... Just think, you seem kinda stressed about it now, imagine if you wait any longer???

I hope this works out for you because if you are happy with Thatched Cottage and you lose it, you are going to be heartbroken!

Re: I want to Book

Thank you ladies. I did get him to agree to go meet with them at the Thatched. The problem is, he wants a better deal then what we first got. I'm just hoping they'll work with us on the price a little. I think he realizes how important it is to me to have our wedding at the Thatched, he just wants to feel like he's getting a good price. So hopefully we will.
Does anyone know if the Thatched will work on you with the price a little?

That's great! I don't know much about Thatched cottage but i see your date is on a friday. That can definitely lower the price. Maybe you can take out and additions so that it can go into your price range. Or when you book other vendors really stick to a budget.

I just really hope we can get a better deal so we can book. I'll be so happy!!!

Re: I want to Book

Well if that is the place you love find out what the deposit is and when the first payment is due and you may still have time to save money before your first payment.
Also, I could understand him being concerned about the price but, is there anyway you can do a Friday or Sunday, or saturday afternoon, or Sunday on a holiday weekend. That way you can have the place you love and he can have a better price.

Re: I want to Book

I think it is really important to book your RH asap. If you love Thatched and they have your date then go for it. It's only a $1000 now and as the other girls say they will work with you and you can make small payments along the way. Do you think FH will come around?? I think it's easier to wait on the other vendors but I think the RH should be booked almost a year in advance. But that is just me! I hope it works out!

Re: I want to Book

It's the payments we are looking to save, it's the per person. We've heard that if you wait until 6-9 months before the wedding you can save on the cost of the catering hall (per person) and some say you can save a lot. I agreed to wait originally, cause I didn't think a Friday in April would be so popular, but I'm seeing my date is and April in general seems to be more popular then I thought. So I don't want to wait. I'm really hoping they will give us a better deal then the original one, cause that really is what's going to make the deal for FH.
Anyone know if they will work with you on cost per person???

Re: I want to Book

I am sure they can work with you. They quoted me an awesome rate, but my date is in Feb. So I would say something like we really can't have it be more than ____ per head. Andre is awesome and will make sure you get what you need.

Re: I want to Book

I think the longer u wait u will spend money quicker. U will spend the same amount @ the end when u make your final balance. Basically the average down payment is $500 after that RH has u make payments. Mine are every 3 mths and the amounts start out small and then increases. But the longer u wait the higher your payments will be.

Re: I want to Book

We booked our hall way in advance but they were very nice to us. They let us book without putting the deposit down.. we are going this weekend to give it to them. But she wrote up the payment schedule on our contract and we wont have to give them money again until spring of next year!!! And we can also cancel and get our money back by Oct 9 of this year in case we find something better, which I know we wont but it feels good having that option.

Re: I want to Book

You should definitely go back with your FH and try to book. Don't be afraid to speak to the banquet manager about options to bring the price down. if you aren't comfortable negotiating bring someone with you that is. i brought a friend of mine who is an ex wedding planner and btwn the two of us i got my RH down to a price i was comfortable with. I sat there for over an hour and showed them every place i had been to and the price quotes i was getting elsewhere.
