Ugh! I booked my ceremony last year some about 3 months after I got engaged. I saw and fell in love with the community church of e. williston, and now i regret that i ever decided to book there. First of all the pastor who i met and who was supposed to do my ceremony is leaving and some other person will be there instead! I was looking over my contract paper work, and they say that a aisle runner will be provided to me for a charge of 50.00, so I called to find out if i can bring my own personalized aisle runner. They say no. I have to use theirs! Soooo I ask, what if i pay the 50 and use my own? they say no! also, i find out that we can't throw petals!!! because it can stain the runner! that is so stupid! If they let me use my own runner then it won't matter! to make matters worse, i have to pay for an organist! I hate the way an organ sounds, so i want a string quartet, she is not sure that is allowed! I am paying 1350 for this stupid money grubbing church, and I am not even getting things they way I want it! I wish I was a member of a church, but I have not been attending church on a regular basis for a while now, so now i have to suffer! have any of you had to deal with this? Anyone have a suggeston for a nice church (not catholic) Here in nassau (north shore)? This is so depressing! I really wan't to cancel my church and book some where else, and at this point I only have 8 and a half months till wedding time!

OMG $1350???? You poor thing!!! The church can be SO frustrating. I know that for some organists, this is their 'livelihood' but come on....if there wasn't a wedding that day, they wouldn't be playing anyway! What's the difference? I'm sorry they're putting you through that! I don't like the sound of organs either but I just can't imagine paying $$$ on top of what I have to pay the church already!
Think of your big day and how by that time, NONE of this will even matter.
Sorry...not familiar with churches on the north shore, unfortunately.

the church i'm getting married at is very nice & much cheaper. i'm not a member either and its catholic too. FM if u want.

hey mimi....so churches usually have such strict rules and regulations....ours is the same except ours is much cheaper than that....we can use our own aisle runner but we cant throw petals (but our priest said that if we could get someone to clean it up it would be fine so we're gonna try to get the limo company to clean it up bc its their aisle runner=no guarantees)....and i wanted strings too but we have to pay for the singer and organist from the church i was sad at first but i put it into perspective just tell them the songs u want it will sound a bit different but at least ur getting the songs u always wanted and not settling....i got this website from someone on liw and it gave me a lil encouragement bc it had the songs i wanted and it gives u an idea of what they song like coming out of an organ

Hi tara! thanks for the hugs! your right, in the end, it probably won't matter....but I can't help being so annoyed that I can't have my ceremony exactlly how i wan't it.......So all I can do is see if there is another possibility and if not, just deal with what i got lol!

i don't have any recommendations for churches (I'm Jewish) , BUT, I can tell you that you can throw fake petals.....I am doing that.....not b/c it will stain the runner but b/c my catering manager said it is a hazard....people can slip on them. You can get fake ones (that look real) in a lot of places..even on line. As for the string quartet....that sounds BEAUTIFUL. Are you sure they will say no to that? Double check......... if not.. I know that the girls on here will help you find a new church. You'll end up with a beautiful ceremony with everything you want.....I know it.

I thought the same thing. That is a ridiculous amount of money. My church also has very strict rules, but it is much more budget friendly.
Wish I could help you out with the church, but I only know RC ones.

I know! the money thing alone is enough to make me cringe! I am really gonna call them again tomorrow and see if they are willing to be a bit more flexable! this is so rediculous

i understand ur paying out the azz and ur not completely happy bc u cant do everything that u had imagined.... it suckz ....sooooooooo advice?... look into other churches if u hear anything that sounds better see if ur dates open and look into switching if not stay with it and try to make the best of things sorry this is making ya mad though

Ya know, another thing that bugs me about my church- I wanted INSTRUMENTAL versions of two different Beatles songs- one for my BP to come down the aisle to, and one for me. INSTRUMENTAL. And I STILL CAN'T USE IT! I understand the music is secular, but so are many different songs used in weddings!! But for some reason they won't accept it. Um HELLO!! Instrumental! No words! Who's gonna know anyway?!?!

I would try and get out of there. I would tell them since your original priest isn't going to marry you, you want to cancel-maybe they will refund a little $.
