I was offered a job...what would you do???

Ok...today I was offered a job at a private school ...there are some catches...its a leave replacement with no benefits and there is a possiblitly the lady won't come back but they are not sure..and I don't know when she is supposed to come back

I am going to meet with the Principal to discuss it further on Monday.

I am afraid that if I take it..something else might come along BUT I am afraid not to take it for fear that nothing else will come along

Maybe youll know what to do after you talk to the principal and get more details. Did they give you a deadline on when you had to accept the offer?

No....I know the principals secretary and recieved the info from her today..it was like its yours if you want it..so I need to discuss the particulars with the Principal

I would take it...It is very late in the summer to get a job offer. It is probably for a teacher who is out for the year and if she returns next year positions will open and you will be the next one to get a spot.
I wish you luck! Tough decision to make.
I took a Perm Sub and then to a LOA/Maternity and now this is my first classroom. YEAH!!

I agree bc your not meeting until monday and they will probably give you until next friday to decide by then more offers probably wont come in. Go with your gut.

I would take it, there are no teaching jobs left on the island so take what you can get....especially this close to the school year...

Tough call Kathleen, I know you've been stressing. I'm sure it would be nice to not have to worry, but what if something better does comes along. Everyone keeps telling me its not unusual for schools to contact you the last week of August or even the week of Labor Day. I know it happened to me 2 years ago.

I'd definitely speak w/ the principal & find out the particulars, BUT no benefits?! COBRA runs about $400 a month. Just something to consider.

I'd take it. I'd be too worried that there weren't any other openings so late in August. I know it's not your dream job and the no benefits stinks but at least it's something plus it'll only be temporary and you could find a new job next year if this doesn't pan out for you. Do you have a backup plan if you don't take this and nothing comes up in the next couple of weeks?

Just subbing...and that wouldn't really start until late in Sept or October..I feel this would look better on a resume than just being a per diem sub..I am also working at an after schoolprogram to suplement my income

Take it. If you get a job offer from a public school with benefits etc it is fine to back out.. they have to understand that you need to do what is in your best interest

This is what I was thinking too....I hate making decisions..I am so indecisive

I am going to take to the Principal on Monday and get a gage in the situation..

How strong is the possibility that she isn't coming back.... and if she doesn't is the job automatically yours. My fiance was in a similar sounding position and when the old teached didn't come back they said we have to have interviews to fill her position we can't just give it to you in case there is someone more qualified.... he only had 2 years experience at the time so he didn't get it!

Take the job and keep your resume out there. If you get a better offer...then backout of the job. I know in public schools if they offer you a leave replacement position they expect you to keep on looking and if you find a full time job they are happy for you and let you back out...no strings attached. Many districts are still hiring, so don't give up just yet!

also kathleen the last two years I literally got jobs the last week in august a few days before school started....there are still possibilities

This is what I am hoping for

But this year seems especially bad for jobs...what do you girls think???
