I was reading in People today that people have actually chosen the sex of their babies...

Would you do this? I think I would... not on my first, but if I had 2-3 children of the same sex, I think I most definitely will choose for my last child. Most people in the article did it on their 3rd or 4th child after having 2-3 kids of the same sex.

They are probably off counting their cycle, I think when it gets close to end of day they all get sluggish

Do you know how they select the sex of the children?? How can they be certain?? Not that I am interested, I am too busy worrrying that the baby will be healthy to be worrying about the sex.

I read it too, it's unbelievable what they can do now.

What I did not like was the parents that had some girls and wanted a boy. They go pg with twins 1 girl/1 boy. In the article the mother says 'it's not great to be able to say Jared is here', well what about Jordan (the little girl). That put me off so much. It came off as she is only excited/happy about the boy.

They have a method of spinning the sperm and seperating them based on the x or y chromosome. Then they pick the ones they want and do IVF. It does not seem to be 100%, but it seems that the success rate is high.

I myself would just be happy to have a healthy baby

Hmm... for some reason I must've skipped that quote... that would've p*$$ed me off too... But I know that that couple not only were doing the sex selection but also undergoing other tests where they were certain that their child was not going to be born with any sickness or complications... they paid over $32000 for their procedures...

from the article on that particular couple:

'... have opted for preimplaintation genetic diagnosis (PGD), a more complex and expensive method - it averages $15000 per attempt - in which doctors screen a fertilized embryo for its sex and genetic disorders, before implanting it in the mother.'

It says they implanted a total of 3 so I guess that's why the ended up with twins... if they were trying for a boy, why wouldn't the doctors implant only BOY embryos... this whole thing confuses me. I guess we should NOT be so picky and let God give us what he wants!
