I Was Robbed Yesterday!

Original post by SoonToBeMrsBrady

Ladies:
I took off of work yesterday and left my house about 12:15pm to go to a few stores. I was back by 2:30pm and my house was robbed. I think it was my cleaning lady because there was no break in and she's had a key to my apartment for almost 2 years...that's how long she's been working for us. She cleaned my house on Friday and came back yesterday, thinking I would be at work, but I wasn't. I think she had an accomplice and they watched me leave the house and went in. Me and FH were saving our change for the honeymoon in an empty 5 gallon water bottle. It wasn't full, but there had to be $1,000 worth of change in there and there is no way she took that out by herself. She also took my Movado watch, Michael Kors watch, FH's Bulova watch, my Canon Powershot digital camera, FH's Sony digital video camera and 2 of our iPod's. That's all that I've noticed so far. My house was not ransacked or torn apart...someone knew where all of these things were....Bam...the Cleaning Lady did it....but I have no proof. Thank god, I insured my engagement ring, which means that I do have renters insurance...which I am so grateful for...but it's the point, ya know? For any ladies out there who do not have their ring insured or their possesions in their house, you may want to think about it. She knew we were planning a wedding....and she goes and robs us...LOSER...What goes around comes around.

be careful. You never know what people have on them when they do stuff like that.

Don't be surprised if she never calls you again or comes by. She must know that you know it was her!

Colleen, I'm so sorry for you!! Mary MOB

PS Debi's future cousins were robbed, this past yr. in Ronkonkoma, and they walked into the house while the robbery was in progress!! Fortunately, they got the robber; I don't know if they recovered the stuff. It has shaken their one child, who is still fearful.

Wow..thats so foul! Im angry just reading this! If it was in fact your cleaning lady, as it sounds like it may be....karma will bite her in the arse. Why dont you press charges?? Cant they do a sweep for fingerprints??

Oh I am so sorry that happened to you. I am glad you have the HO-4 policy to cover some of your losses. EAven if you get the key back, change the lock - who knows how many copies were made.

I am very sorry this happened to you guys. My family's home was robbed years ago & we like you determined who it had to be because of the same reasons, no forced entry & they had to know where some things were......years later though we learned we all assumed wrongly......hopefully, your gut is right when you confront her, wait are you confronting her?

You assumed wrongly? Then who was it? (did you think it was the cleaning lady and it wasn't??)

You said 'arse'....I love it!

They won't do fingerprints....because she's been there before. I would love to press charges, but we don't have proof.

I changed the locks immediately....There was no way, I was going to sleep last night knowing she could come with god knows who and possibly hurt me for the rest of my stuff. The locks are changed...thank god!

We thought it was our neighbor (actually their terrible friends that were always outside) because we suspected they knew where my mom stashed the emergency key (there was no more emergency key since then) but later found out it wasn't them, it was actually a worker in the building...they caught him years later for another robbery & a piece of my mom's jewelery was recovered from his apt, guess he didn't get a enough crack money offered for it!

I want to...my dad thinks that if she calls to clean again, let her in and have a video camera set up secretly, and have me and FH put the pressure on her to confess what she did. She's definitely not American, so he told me that I should tell her that I'm going to call Immigration on her.

OMG, I am so sorry to hear that! It is such a horrible feeling, and this is not a good time. I had my pocketbook stolen out of FH's car about 2 months ago. That ****** so bad. My life is in my pocketbook! It's so annoying to replace everything. I stayed in that parking lot until the police came. That is what they are there for, give me a break, emergencies, I have a lot of respect for them, but where are they when you need them, we pay their salaries! Good luck, I hope you catch her. Karma will if you don't!

maybe you should do the same....if youre almost 100% sure it was her...accuse her...tell her you want your stuff back and youll leave it that and you wont press charges..tell her someone saw her coming into your place..give her a lil scare..

I would do this too. Tell her you have a camera set up in the house somewhere, because you didn't trust her to be in the house by herself, and you will go to the police with it if she doesn't return your stuff. Who knows it might work.

I agree... call her and tell her one of your neighbors called to notify you of some suspicious behavior going on at your place, and that if she hands over all the stuff you won't press charges. She'll understand the words Police & Jail very clearly if she plays the no english card.

I agree with you girls, I'm not sure I could just wait for her to call me...I think I would try to call her right away...

Re: I Was Robbed Yesterday!

I am so sorry you are going through this! Since she is the only person with a key, the police should be able to question her at the very least - go over to her house and talk to her. Even to ask, 'hey, were you cleaning that house on Monday? Things were stolen and we wanted to see if you noticed anything different that day, to see if it happened before or after you were there.'

Again, I am soooo sorry this happened to you. Reading all of this reminded me to move the spare key I now have in a very obvious spot.

Hm.. I think the only way to do that would be to buy a recorder that hooks up to your phone....they have casette tape ones and digital ones. If you have a digital voice recorder already, you may be able to just get an adapter for it.

Buy a recorder and hook it up to the phone. You can get one for like 10 bucks at kmart also. I'm telling you. dont let this sit so easy. It's not fair to you and your FH.
