I'm paying $760 - incl. pre-cana (not the weekend one though)
Hers was $300!
Is my church expensive, or is hers just really cheap?
eta: this is my home parish since birth! Fh and I both received all of our sacraments there.

Mine is $650 plus $50 for pre-cana/focus.
It is so funny you posted this because my friend from work said her church is only 300 today and I nearly fell over. When we talked a bit she said that is the 'Church' fee, she also has to pay the music director $100 and the singer $100 and the organist $100 so we are only $50 bucks different.
Some Churches break it down differently to make you feel better.
...maybe this is it I HOPE so, anyway!

Re: I was talking to a friend re: church cost,
We are paying $300 and $75 for pre-cana. If we book their organist and singer it will be an extra $220.00
I did not think our church was high priced and it's not seeing you girls are paying in the $700's.

Re: I was talking to a friend re: church cost,
I have to call my church...I am paying $750 and he said that was the fee. So I thought that was it I didn't know you have to pay for pre-cana or other things he never mentioned it. I really hope my price includes everything.

Re: I was talking to a friend re: church cost,
Church is $750...and it's the parish my parents were married in, my sister and I went to school there...my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents have been parishoners since they moved to the neighborhood...I was shocked that it would cost so much!!

Re: I was talking to a friend re: church cost,
700 or 750 something like that
and it includes nothing-- NOT EVEN A PRIEST!
my priest said he didn't want to do 'another mass' on a sunday so i would have to find someone else to marry us-- so i did and i have to pay him extra to come and travel to our church. mind you, this is the church i grew up in and recieved all my crap in... but what can you do? the priest at my church just isn't very nice-- it doesn't even include music or anything... no one will even be in the building-- they want me to make sure to call them that morning to leave the doors open for us!
ETA: doesn't include altar people either-- just the building lol and lights on

Re: I was talking to a friend re: church cost,
I have to say these posts really bother me. we are all on this website because we are able to plan nice weddings. many of you are spending exorbant amounts of money.... well over what many people make in a YEAR on ONE day. yet, these posts about the church donations keep coming up over and over again. i've posted on this before but this is how i feel:
If some of you are spending $100 and up a head at a catering hall and hire a day of coordinator and spend $2,000 on flowers, etc. etc. you can surely give your church a nice donation in appreciation for receipt of the sacrament of marriage. what they ask for is pocket change in comparison to what some of you spend on other things for your wedding. if you don't like it, get married at the hall....obviously, the sacrament (i.e. being married by the Church) means nothing to some of you that feel like they are getting 'ripped off' for givign the church $500.00
fyi: the cost differs parish to parish for many reasons. many parishes are quite large and have high expenditures: employees to pay, a parish school to run, musicians who most of the time volunteer to make some extra money, etc. we all know that the cost of living and running a home (heat, oil, electricity) has gone way UP...they are just trying to keep the church running. many parishes are poor and do not have parishoners that can afford to tithe the true cost of running a parish. that is why they ask for a donation for your wedding. if finances are a true issue, no priest would turn you away, but for most of us on here, we can afford what they ask. stop complaining or get married soemwhere else!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I commend you for posting yours. I'm sure others out there feel the same way, but didn't have the guts to post.
I'm just surprised at the difference amongst parishes, that's all. And I don't think its right that there's a donation of $X-amount for this, $X-amount for that, and THEN you're expected to tip. I attend church and they get my 'donation' weekly - I am a little irritated that parishoners and non-parishoners are charged the same 'mandatory donation' for a wedding ceremony....and the priest is driving a new Lexus.
