I went to the store and came back and some guy is sitting in his car in front of my house!

Original post by NovemberSue

He is in my spot!!!!!!GRRRR!!!
He told me that he is in the neighborhood doing work so not to be alarmed. I don't like someone just sitting there. If he was doing work,he should be doing more than sitting there.

Maybe he was a PI and one of your neighbors is having an extra-marital affair and he's waiting to catch the adulterer's lover leaving the house while the hubby/wife is at work....or is that just on TV?

Where do you live that spot in front of the house is 'yours'? Is that the unspoken rule? I ask b/c I never thought of that and I always park wherever when I go to visit people. It would be good to know for the future so I am not taking people's spots. Certainly where I live now, it's a free for all. LOL, where I live now, I'd never wonder who someone was in a car for awhile either.

Well, I'm glad he's gone. I guess keep your eyes peeled in case you see that car or another one hanging around again.

Right in front of our house is OUR spot.If he is waiting for a neighbor, there were plenty of open spots for him to park.ANd the jerk saw I had a car full of groceries. Why should I carry them from someone elses house? Its just common courtesy!
Everyone knows that.

I like to be aware of my surroundings and people who seem to be possibly up to something. It could be that this guy was supposed to meet a neighbor but he could have also been scoping out a neighbor's house. To assume any neighborhood is completely safe from crime is being naive.
I live in a nice neighborhood but crime can happen at any place at any time.

I know how you feel. They have been building houses at the end of our block for almost a year now and they are always in front of the house

I hate when people park in MY spot in front of my house too. Even worse is when they park right in the middle, so there's no room behind them and no room in front of them. RUDE!!! Well, at least he left now.

Simply stated: it wasnt a sarcastic comment. I'm not getting involved with your drama here. Calm yourself before you jump on someone. I'm outta this silliness...

Sue,
I dont mean to butt in, but I dont think Liz was being sarcastic. I was wondering the same thing.
If you live on Long Island, youd have a driveway. If you live in any of the boroughs there is no 'rule' of who's spot is whose.
It's funny that this topic came up.
Actually just this past weekend, I was telling my sister (She lives in MIddle Village) and shes lucky enough to ALWAYS have her 'spot' in front of her house. and I was saying how I thank GOODNESS that I moved to LI and dont have to worry about that again...

I really dont think there was any sarcasm or hidden agenda in what Liz wrote.

Just thought Id mention that since I read it from another angle and didnt see what you were referring to.

No hard feelings & Stay Safe

If you see someone pull up to their house with a car full of groceries and you are just sitting there doing nothing, common courtesy would be to move over so they can unload their stuff right there.
Certainly I don't own the road but its just common courtesy.
I don't like when people make sarcastic comments.
You claim it wasn't. I can't see how your comments weren't. Anyway................................................
the drama didn't start here.I just didn't care for the comments and wanted you to know it. If someone wants to dish it out, they better be able to take it.
Enough said!

Sue, are you referring to me too ?
Now im confused.

No Anna. I just wanted to come to my own defense.
I don't come on here to argue with anyone but if I feel I am being attacked in some way,I'm not just going to sit back. If provoked,I will give someone an ugly earful (words).

I was answering Elizabeth.

Re: I went to the store and came back and some guy is sitting in his car in front of my house!

I came on today and read this post with interest because when we rented a basement apartment we had all sorts of parking issues due to the fact that we had no access to a driveway. I also have tons of family in the city and it’s often a long walk to their home from the nearest spot I can get when I visit.

However, I feel I have to jump in here and say that although I never met Elizabeth, I’ve “known” her through the boards for over two and a half years and she’s a sweetheart. I believe her question was asked out of nothing more than curiosity.

I normally don’t butt in like this (maybe that’s why I’ve been around so long and I’m not even a fanatic yet) but I felt I should say something.

to all

Anyway, I was always the peacemaker too so I can appreciate people trying to smooth things out.
People that know me know that I am a nice person who doesn't like to argue with anyone. However if I feel that someone is being rude,I will say something.

Re: I went to the store and came back and some guy is sitting in his car in front of my house!

OK, I thought it was just me. and I didnt want to seem like I was defending my mommy buddy Liz.

I TOTALLY RELATED to the NO PARKING situation, so I giggled when I read 'my spot'. (with no offense intended to you Sue ) Because we lived on the same block in Queens for over 25 years. We lived a block from a Hospital, about 3 blocks from a church, and 4-5 blocks from a subway station. So needless to say, we were lucky if the idiots that parked in front of our house would EVER have common courtesy in any way whatsoever. We had parking spaces in back of the house, since my parents own the house, but it was just a nightmare to get out of the driveway, especially if the jerks parked IN the driveway, paying no mind to the fact that its a driveway.

I was just in Queens last week, picking up my dad from that house (they now live in another BETTER area, but they still own it and still have 'maintenance' to do as landlords. Well the headache came rushing back, as I fought 3 double-parked cars and 2 vans so badly parked that I wanted to kick them MANY TIMES I feel like telling them, LISTEN WE OWN THIS HOUSE, but who are we to say that ? I have to deal with SO MUCH of this, that in my head I said 'yeah, right common courtesy'.
SO i really dont think Liz meant any harm or sarcasm. I really think she (and you) are far above the childish stuff on this site!

to you both !
