Ideas for a Groom's Cake: *updated idea at the bottom*
Ladies, I need some help here. Now, I know Vinny better then he knows himself but for some reason I'm stumped on the Groom's Cake idea for him. It's something I really want to do but choosing WHAT is hard.
I, at first, thought of an old fashioned Doctor's bag... like the one Doc Baker used to carry around on Little House on the Prairie-- any fans?? Anywho, but I hesitate because I feel like is that JINXING him since we will not know his MCAT results until late next month and WHAT IF something happens where he cannot or will not become a Doctor? I mean, I know the chances are slim-- am I reading too much into this?
Any other suggestions??
We have always had this ongoing joke about him being the Captain of the Football and Baseball teams in HS... Vinny was Mr. Popularity little twirp! LOL... But on our first date he had to, of course, go out of his way to mention how he was the Captain to me... Even though it was FIVE years later HAHA... So, it is something I tease him about to this day and we always laugh and he INSISTS he did NOT mention it just to make me think he was cool
Anyway-- something with that or the Doc thing??
What do you girls think?? Or do you have ANY other suggestions?? HELP!
**updated idea at the bottom- please tell me what you think**
he IS a yankees fan but not really avid-- he rarely watches the games-- and since i'm a mets fan he's not getting a yankees cake unless i can throw it on the floor

Does he have any hobbies? any fav sports teams?
We did a combat helmet for my DH since he's int he army. My other idea would have either been a Coors light can (he loves him some beer ) or a cigar box filled with cigars (since he loves those too). I also thought of doing a Giants or Yankees cake since he loves both teams.

OOoooo such a good idea! Your puppy is adorable and would make a great grooms cake! Vin would probably love that. My vote goes for Charlotte

Cute idea! but at the same time, being the sentimental person I am - she'd be too cute to eat!

Re: Ideas for a Groom's Cake:
i definatly agree about jinxing the doc thing... not about JINXING it per se, but if he's not CERTAIN he's a dr, then why incorporate it.. its almost like jumping the gun. So that story about the captain is hillaaaarious, and a big part of your relationship! I would DEFINATLY incorporate that into the cake! good luck~

I think it's cute that you tease him about the captain thing. I would do that. I am some what superstitious when it comes to things, so even though he may just be a doctor in the upcoming years, ya never know. So I wouldn't want to jinx it, if ya even could.... But if you got him a football helmet and a baseball bat or something like that with captain words on it, I think that would be really cute.

Are you serving the groom's cake at the reception or at your rehearsal dinner? I want to get one for Todd as well, but Tom at Audrey's said it could get tricky with serving the cake at the reception since there wouldn't be enough for everyone. We can't get the cake for our RD since it's in NJ on a Thursday night.
Anyone else planning to serve the groom's cake at the reception?
I think the puppy idea is cute and I also like the idea of a football helmet with 'CAPTAIN' written on it!

Hey- I am serving the grooms cake a the rehearsal dinner on Monday, Sept 3. I was going to get one from Audreys too, but its too much of a drive to go and come back on Labor day. I am having my regular bakery just make the cake. Maybe if you cant get exactly what you want from your local place in NJ, the bakery can airbrush the picture onto a round/square cake. That would look great too!

i saw the combat hat in your pics! it was great!!!!
unforunately, he was more into PLAYING sports then actually watching them so not really on the sports teams.
he was into jui jitsu but not since he made black belt.
ummmm what else?? well, he HATES any sort of smoke so not a cigar person-- and he loves like 'nice' beer lol like guiness and yeungling but he doesn't have a fave- so i wouldn't even know what to pick and he's not a big person that is really into alcohol so to have that would be weird b/c it's not a big part of his life.
oyyyyy he is SO not the typical guy that is why this is hard!!!

Thanks Ida!
OK I have a question for all the girls in this thread - not to hiijack the thread from the OP -
What do you ladies think if I had a personal size 'groom's cake' made just for my FH to be served to him at the reception? It would be a mini Eagles helmet.

I thought about that but then Melissa (yes Melissa, I'm outing you!!!) put the VETO on it... LOL! She was like 'omg that reminds me of the armadillo from Steel Magnolias' hahaha so I'm like oh no! She's like 'what are you going to do- slice open your dog and eat her?!' hahahah But maybe that is a good idea afterall, I know Melissa was just kidding-- hmmm...
Char is the cutest.

Re: Ideas for a Groom's Cake:
LOL yeah, Melissa is right in a way, it could be reminiscent of the armadillo cake in Steel Magnolias.
But I think that your puppy would make such an adorable cake! You probably think she's so cute that you could just eat her up, now you actually can!

thanks-- and i agree w/ you and rosella-- and a lot of others that posted the same thing. i think that is cute and i agree w/ putting the jinx on the dr. thing which i don't want to do...
he is such a twit!!! who says that? he found a way to, out of nowhere, tie in 'i was the captain of both the football and baseball teams' i was like WOW this guy really wants to impress me!
months later- he admitted- he really wanted to make an impression- the impression, however, in reality was: this guy needs to be made fun of
