Does anyone have ideas about how I could incorporate the memory of my dad into our wedding? I want something special, but not too depressing. I thought of having his picture, but I think it would be too sad for me during the ceremony. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

Re: ideas for memorial
We are printing names in the programs and I am having the florist put a small bo-k on the outside pew that my mom would have sat in.
Memorial candles are another way to remember a loved one. I went to a wedding recently and the MOH read a poem that was meaning to the bride and her family in memory of her brother.

You can have your 'something old' be something of his that you may have. It can be private and personal to you. Maybe his wedding band in your bouquet somewhere or something of his sewn into your gown, perhaps a hankie or anything that makes you think of him. You can even have something of his be the wrap around the bouquet instead of ribbon or any other fabric. You can do any number of things to honor someone who is not with you anymore.

My father passed away 6 months before we were married. This is how I remembered him.
My father would not have wanted a candle or a table of memorial pictures at his daughter's wedding. He would have wanted the day to be about us. So I kept his memorial private for myself by having this picture in my bouquet. When you lose a parent so close to a wedding day, it is impossible to forget who they are. In my faith, happiness always comes before the sadness and grief is held off for that day. Technically, the period of mourning lasts a year in the Jewish faith, and I did not think it fair to my mother, siblings, aunt, and cousins to remind them of their sadness. My father's spirit was comforting enough - it was too soon for visual reminders. the pain was still very raw.

What wording did you use in your program?

Re: ideas for memorial
Those we love dont go away They walk beside us everyday Unseen, unheard, but always there Still loved, still missed and very dear
We thought of you with love today But that is nothing new We thought about you yesterday And days before that too We think of you in silence We often speak your name Now all we have is memories And your picture in a frame Your memory is our keepsake With which we'll never part God has you in his keeping We have you in our hearts In Loving Memory of
'Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.'
'If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again..'
'Those we have held in our arms for a little while we hold in our hearts forever
'I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new, I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence I often speak your name, all I have are memories and your picture in a frame.

I wanted to write the names in the program and mention them in the mass, but it is actually forbidden in the catholic church to mention someone deceased at a wedding mass, becase the mass is supposed to be dedicated to the couple, and not the deceased.... some churches might let you get away with it, but my FH's family is old-school, and they would stop it even if the church let me write it in the program
I think the bo-k thing is the only subtle thing I can do....
Really! oh my! I'm Catholic, getting married in a Catholic church and my mom died 8 years ago...if someone told me I couldn't mention her in my ceremony or program boy would I flip or breakdown. She'll be on my mind my entire wedding day and is a part of me. If its supposed to be dedicated to the couple only then they should not allow a bridal party or escorts for the bride...look at the bigger picture...the wedding day is about what is important to the couple and that means people living or deceased.
...oh, I read your previous post...I'm Roman Catholic...I would be very hurt if I were told that.

I am going to have a bouquet locket with a picture of my father. My brother and I are also going to dance to Through the Years which was my fathers favorite song. I am also going to write a little something to honor those we have lost in my program.
