I can not believe that I was almost a victim of identity theft. I recently sign up with paypal to order something from eBay. I was checking my email and I receive a email indicating that someone has tried to use my account several times and that my account has be hijacked *** hijacked, I immediately contact paypal and she indicated that my account is in good standards and no foreign activities have been made, she goes on- someone is trying to get information (Identity theft). WOW, I was in total shock and the bad thing is, I click on the link (idiot), but thank goodness my computer block it and no info. was giving.
So girls be careful when ordering things online, don't they realize that planning a wedding is stressful enough.

that happened to my brother. Charges were made on his paypal account, thankfully eBay reversed everything...
NEVER, EVER, EVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN EMAIL - PHYSICALLY GO TO THE WEBSITE AND SIGN ON YOURSELF!!!

That happened to me and I did the same thing. I called Paypal directly...good thing you didn't click the link in the email and entered your name and password then you might have ended up being a victim! Good instinct!!!

Tell me about it... I had my ID stolen 2 weeks before xmas in 04, when I had just ordered a mess of things for FH online....the theft was thru my bank and some of the vendors were wonderful and some were just downright mean. I had my money given back right after xmas and still can not get a credit card until this coming december....its been a painful road. I still deal with credit agencies, as alot of crap was taken out in my name....and they couldnt trace it any further than a Guatemalean web browser. The name of the person used virgin mary in spanish!
Worst of all, I go to FHs house and knock and they say whos there.. I say Lindsay.....and they say are you sure????????? I still get that!

Re: Identity Theft, almost a victim.......
I ignore all emails from ebay/paypal. I delete them then sign on directly to check my accounts out. I honestly am terrified of scams like that because even though charges are reversable they can wipe out your entire account before you realize it and then you get charged for a negative balance.

i used to get those emails all the time. it just looked fishy to me because it wasnt the usual ebay format. if i was in a big hurry though i could have easily been fooled. scary.

Re: Identity Theft, almost a victim.......
good thing you didnt fall for it!!
a few months ago FH had some mysterious charges on his paypal and ebay accounts. The first question I asked him was did they email him about it and he said yes - i automatically knew that the trouble started AFTER the email was sent to him. SO we had to stop all credit cards and all accounts - they even went into his yahoo account and changed the password! ( he used the same pw for all three accounts, i bet they all had 69 in them ) it was terrible and he still has to get a credit score every three months just in case they got any other info

Re: Identity Theft, almost a victim.......
This can NOT be taken off your credit score...so be really careful! This happened to FH's best man around the holidays someone opened up a card in the Westchester and went on a shopping spree...Loui Vut, Tiffany's, Buy Buy Baby...lol and many more. Anyway he's still in legal stuff to be able to not have to pay the charges off. He thinks its from opening a card at Circuit city or best buy or something and the employee saved his info. Anyway he's in Law school and in enough debt from school loans...it just really really ***** that there are that kind of people out there. Be careful w/your info.

Re: Identity Theft, almost a victim.......
i havent had any problems with ebay, but someone got a hold of my cc card # and charge $200 worth of stuff at a victoria secret's in vegas. Thankfully they credited it. And a few years ago someone opened a checking account in my name at some no name bank. It's finally off my record, but it was hell fighting it.
