if guests show up late to ceremony

I may be completely over thinking this please let me know......

But, I kind of want my venue to shut the doors once our ceremony starts. I just feel like if groups of people are shuffling in late it is going to be so distracting. Part of me thinks that is rude to do to people being that I am having a Friday night wedding and people are bound to hit traffic, but at the same time people have known the date and time for over a year and should factor in traffic if they want to make the ceremony...I just dont want to be up at the alter saying vows when a group of 8 friends walk in and try to find a seat. At least for a church wedding the church is usually huge and people can quietly sit in the back without anyone noticing or creep up a side aisle. Our ceremony space is on the small side and I think it will be a disturbance....

I don't know, I will probably just let it play out but it's something that I have been thinking about.

I don't think it's rude at all. People need to be on time. I've thought about this too!

our venue shuts the doors. thats why they offer a 1/2 hour buffer with champagne and strawberries (we put the earlier time on invites)

Me too! The time on our invitation is an hour earlier than our ceremony start time. So part of me just thinks...'no excuse' lol.

I agree. We put a time 30 minutes earlier than our ceremony time and the venue is doing hospitality. I feel like if someone shows up more than 30 minutes after the invite time, that is pretty rude!

Not rude at all! I have an irrational fear of this myself. I think an hour early is plenty of time and I remember Sand Castle offered a fabulous hospitality so if they're smart they'll really get there an hour early and enjoy all the food and drinks!

my sister put fifteen minutes before on the invite, and made the maitre d wait another fifteen minutes before the ceremony which worked out great. You have to do this. People come late that is life and locking them out of the ceremony is not the answer lol.

It definitely is NOT rude. It would be rude for ppl to walk in at the middle of your ceremony! I am going to have my DOC shut the doors after I walk down and no one is allowed in once its starts.
