If someone showed up to your wedding in white or cream.....

Original post by esb980

would you be upset? I hadn't thought about this untill FMIL called to let me know she told FH's cousin, she could wear the cream colored dress she bought for a sweet 16, to my wedding, and FHs cousins mom said no, she can't wear cream to a wedding, and FMIL told her Eleanor could care less . Well, I think i would care. I'm glad her mom said no. But that doesn't mean I will be the only one in white. I guess it's not a big deal, but I thnk it would annoy me!!

My own sister showed up in all white to our brother's wedding. I thought it was inappropriate. Yet, I never heard anyone talk about it.

I do not like others wearing a white to a wedding, but like you ladies said you are so caught up in the day you wouldn't even notice.. maybe looking at pictures but by then who cares..
How about my cousins MIL wore a white dress and when my cousin asked what she was wearing she never said white.. now that would flip me out..

This happened at my sister's wedding! Our cousin had a civil ceremony a few months before my sisters wedding and I guess because she felt deprived of her 'big' wedding she decided to wear the dress she wore to her ceremony to the reception! My sister was so busy that she didn't even notice but me and my other sisters were a bit upset with her. She was trying to steal her thunder!

now that is completely inappropriate...

If she's a young kid, then she may be stubborn and not be told what to do - let her experience how inappropriate she is when people keep reminding her at the wedding that she shouldn't be weraring bright... If that doesn't work, have your MOH accidentally bump her into your chocolate fountain!

I'll be honest with you, people will gawk and probably comment amongst themselves as to how innappropriate it is. I wouldnt give it a second thought though. Nobody takes away from a bride.

Ditto.

not sure, but probably not. I am going to be so wrapped up in marrying the most wonderful person in the world that that will be all I am thinking about!!

One of my guests wore a white pantsuit to my wedding. Since it was a pantsuit, she got away with it. if it had been a dress, i probably would have said something to her.

I agree with all of the above!

Honestly it would bother me a lil, but then I know that really wouldn't take anything away from me so I'd try to just let it roll off my back. Kinda funny, I was talking to FH's 8 y/o daughter this weekend and even SHE knew and understood why only the bride wears white to a wedding. I thought it was interesting how some adults don't seem to get this!!

I wore a white long simple gown to FH cousin's wedding (they're in our bridal party) and I honestly did not know that you werent supposed to wear white to a wedding! I was 21 years old at the time and I seriously did not know. I mentioned it to her afterwards and she told me that it wasnt a big deal...but I know when she saw me she was probably like 'YOU BIATCH'! Meanwhile I was oblivious to the whole thing!

I don't really care what people wear to the wedding-I don't think I would even notice. As long as they stay off the altar - they can wear white.

Why would anyone do that? What is wrong with these FMIL's!?

I really wouldn't care either, I'm seriously not going to be scanning the room to see what everyone was wearing.

When I was younger, I wore a cream colored dress to a wedding and had no idea it was inappropriate at all. It was the dead of summer and the only dresses I found were in light colors and since I waited for the last minute so I had to pick it but no one said anything to me. I really don't see what the big deal is, especially if it's a summer wedding. JIMO.

someone wore a cream suit to my wedding - I didn't care. I did for a second but no one was paying attention to that anyway.

I saw the guest in question, and I said to Kelliann, 'there's always one at every wedding', meaning there's always that one guest that wears something inappropriate, whether it's a white or cream outfit, or something slutty looking.

For my MOH, it was one of her DH's cousins who wore a white pantsuit. This would not have been too bad if it was not for the fact that the jacket was cut down to there (with no shirt under) and you could tell what color thong she was wearing. And my MOH DID NOTICE and complained to me about it.

As for me, I would laugh it off, only because it would only bring negative attention to the offender in question, and if that's what they wanted, then oh well!!

I agree!

I agree with Leslie too...I went to a wedding and a woman wore a white suite with lace trim...we all noticed it and talked about her ...but she couldn't shine the brides shoes!!!

Personally, I could give a flying rat's arse if someone showed up in white or ivory to our wedding.

I don't understand why it's a problem (for other brides) either...

Everyone knows who the bride is - that pretty lil lady with the big poofy dress, veil, and sparkling like a star....

I'd be more concerned that someone comes in jeans...
