If you are wondering if it's worth it...

If you are wondering if it's worth it...

I’m sorry this is a little lengthy and kind of heavy, but I write this not just to vent I guess, but for anyone planning a wedding that wonders if all the headache and hassle is worth it. I lost a number of nights sleep sweating details here and there and if I knew then, what I know now, I would have saved myself the concern. It’s inevitable to worry, but I ask you to not lose sight of why else you are getting married. Yes, your big day is about the love you and your spouse share together, but it is also a day you share with your loved ones. Memories that will last a life time and for me, memories I will cling to until my last breath for more than one reason.

I was never the little girl that dreamed about a big wedding. I remember going over finances with my wife during the planning and asking if we were sure we didn’t want to just go to the justice of the peace and put all the money towards the best honeymoon ever. With each little detail, I asked myself, is all this really worth it? Who am I trying to impress? I love my woman, that’s all that should matter, not a beautiful ceremony and kick *** party. Despite my hemming and hawing, we went ahead with the plans and it was the best day of our lives. I married an amazing woman in front of my family and friends. Everyone had a blast and is still talking about it to this day and one of the reasons is because of my spirited grandmother who was cutting up a rug. She was the star of the reception with people lining up to dance with her and take in all of her glory in seeing her oldest granddaughter get married. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that exactly a month after the happiest day of my life, I would experience the saddest day of my life when my grandmother passed away. I spoke to her the day before and she was still talking about how much fun she had and how wonderful it was that so many people had showed up to love and support me and my wife. She told me I was very blessed to have such wonderful people in my life. Every week she’d ask when we would receive the pictures and when the video would be ready so we could sit down and watch together. It’s now that I appreciate my wedding on a whole new level. Life is filled with hardships and our loved ones pull together to be by our side to support us and sometimes we forget to celebrate the good. I have always tried to live life to the fullest and appreciate the small moments, but I will always remember that day and be grateful for that one last banger party with my abuelita.

My condolences to you and your family. Thank you so much for sharing that with us! It really is so touching and Im so happy to hear that your grandma was able to share that special moment with you before she passed <3

I too look forward to sharing my special day this sunday with my grandmother as well. She is 85 and I'm her first grandchild to get married. And she holds a tradition of wearing the same outfit to my wedding that she wore to my mom's and Aunt's wedding.

With all the fuss and fighting sometimes we do lost sight of these things that will later mean the world to us.

All the best to you and your wife. Your grandmother will always be with you watching and sending her blessing

So sorry for your loss. But what a beautiful story and thank you for sharing it with us. THIS is exactly the reason that we decided to get video for our wedding. We were on the fence, but I'm glad we did. And now you, also, when you get your video, you'll be able to relive all of those amazing moments with your grandmother. Love to you and your wife and your family!

I'm so sorry for your loss. *Hugs* I'm really glad you posted this I was in the same position as you and didn't ever dream about having a big wedding but my FH did so I often find myself questioning if it's worth it. But after reading this it made me realize that it's a lot more than the money you're spending but it's about a moment in time that will stay with you forever. Thank you.

I sometimes wonder myself is all of this worth it as our day draws near and you could not have said it best. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time and chin up my friend. You were able to share an amazing moment in your life with your abuelita and now you have a forever angel with a name that will always watch over you. God bless!

I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad she was a part of such an important day in your lives. I lost my grandma six months ago and debated having a small ceremony on an island somewhere, just the two of us, because I couldn't imagine her not being there. I still can't to be honest. But then my fiance reminded me of all the people that we are still blessed to have in our lives and that would love to be a part of that day. Stay strong and hang in there - luckily many of the last memories you have of/with her are ones that will put a smile on your face

It'll make getting your pictures and video even more special now! Thoughts and prayers to you, your wife, and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Reading this also brought me to tears. It is nice to know that you have a really great last memory of her. Also it is good to know that you debated if it was worth it and it was. Cause I do that all the time.

This is EXACTLY why I am having a wedding of my dreams. I'm so sorry for your loss. My FH has no grandparents on either side I still have two living grandmothers and NO ONE in my family has any big celebrations I just feel like I owe it to all of my family to have one huge celebration. I hope you find comfort in viewing your photos and/or video and see the joy on your grandmothers face. Thank you for this posting! Best wishes to you.

Thank you to everyone for the warm wishes. I really am comforted by the memories of that day. I am deeply sad she is gone, but very relieved I always made the best of my time with her and the wedding was the icing on the cake. It makes the coping that much easier. Even beyond just my grandmother having a blast, the rest of my family and close friends made memories as well. Funny thing is, we were dead set against doing a video, and that morning my wife's close friend that does legit photography said he would do our video and we could set up a payment plan later. Thank God for him honestly. That video is priceless now. Okay enough sad stuff...go forth and be wed - enjoy the entire process. I miss it so much!! I reconnected with a cousin with everything that happened and she is getting married on Halloween. I am vicariously living through her wedding planning. LoL
