If you can't attend a wedding ...

FH and I were invited to a wedding, but cannot attend. Initially I had planned on giving what we would normally give if we were attending, but I'm being told that's not how it works. Right now my options are:

- Give what we normally give (cash)
- Give about half to 2/3rds of what we normally give (cash)
- Send registry gifts making up about half - 2/3rds what we normally give

Opinions? What do you ladies do?

Thanks!!!

Depends on how close you are to these people. I've been invited to weddings and i was like, she invited me? i haven't spoken to her in years, and then didn't send a gift.

If it's a good friend, or a family member, i would send a gift close to what you might have given if yuou attended.

Thanks for replying!

It's not a really close friend, but it is someone FH grew up with and still talks to. They hang out once in a while, but talk more through email. Gift-wise (if we were going) he'd fall in the mid-range.

I wouldn't go all out being on how the relationship sounds...but send something special and thank them for wanting you to celebrate in their special day

give what you can afford and feels right to you... what would you want to get from them if the situation was reversed??

I wouldn't ever consider not sending a gift unless I didnt like the people at all.. but thats just my opinion.. I would say if the tables were turned, what in oyur mind would be a fair gift? But in the end they know your saving for a wedding to pay for and I'm sure there not expecting a huge gift.. I'm always a fan of cash though, I always give it.. its a safty net good luck
