I've been there twice and never got sick from the water. But they tell you not to drink the water, so I didnt. I mean, you'll be fine as long as you dont drink the tap water. I definitely wouldnt let that stop you from booking if thats the only thing holding you back. Just stick to bottled water.

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
I've been there a few times and never had a problem with the water. Most of the drinking water is bottled anyway....

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
I didnt drink the water. Most hotels have purified water they use for ice and cooking. I didn't get sick- like montezumas revenge, but my stomach was a little upset there and for about a week after I got back. It wasnt horrible though. I mainly stuck to breads and cereals at the buffets after that. FH was completely fine.
I heard that the additive they use to purify the water can upset your stomach a bit. Just bring immodium and pepto like on any other trip.

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
I've been many times. Its very very common to get sick from the water. All you do is stick to bottled water that was NOT bottled in Mexico (you MUST check the bottle to see if it was). Also, dont drink soda that was canned or bottled in Mexico (including Coca Cola) -- again, check the can or bottle first. Dont eat salad -- if it was washed with water it'll get you sick.
If you stay at a resort you'll probably be okay because they have water purifying pumps. But just be careful. Dont eat their fruit either -- same thing....washed with water, it'll get you sick.
At a resort you'll be okay with frozen drinks, but be careful with putting ice in your drinks outside of your resort.
The only reason I've never gotten sick is because I've always followed these rules. However, I know several people who didnt and got VERY sick for the enitre time they were in MX. As long as you're careful, you'll have a great time!

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
if you stay at a respectable resort all the water is filtered and they bring in bagged ice. i was there in may with a large group no one had a problem and we're going back for our HM, hell we like it there so much we bought a timeshare!

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
I've been to Mexico 6 times and I've never gotten sick. I honestly think that people get sick from the food and just think that its the water. All of the hotels have purified water systems beacuse it's mostly all Americans visiting the hotels. Also, the people that work in the resorts live so poorly and they bring in germs from their homes. That's whats gets people sick, not the water.

if you drink it, yes, you most likely will NO ONE drinks the water bottled water only but it is certainly NOT a reason not to go there

I went to Mexico once and I got sick the last 2 days I was there. I only drank bottled water and brushed my teeth with bottled water but somehow still got sick I guess between the ice and frozen drinks you can't avoid it

yup....i have been twice--and in the actual info on the hotels it said that their water was filtered. i did not get sick at all while there.
it really is a great place to vacation/HM -- didn't go for our HM cause we'd already been--but i would totally go back!

Re: If you have been to Mexico..
I've been multiple times and to different cities and have never gotten sick. I tried to stick to bottled water, but I did brush my teeth with the tap water and drink frozen drinks in the hotel and out at restaurants that were no doubt made with ice frozen from tap water. It still was not a problem. Most reputable resorts do filter the water as other posters have said, and it's definitely not hard for you to monitor your water intake.
