If you haven't registered yet, BIG TIP!!!

Original post by Suzanner

Hey, ladies!! I recently got married, and although I haven't done my review yet, there is a piece of advice I wanted to pass along asap, because I find it so valuable.

I registered at Macy's. I had a wonderful experience there, and everyone was so unbelievably helpful. THEN I found my china pattern at Bed Bath and Beyond for almost $50 less (with a different cup). I couldn't justify having people pay that much more for it, so I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond as well.

There are a lot of things you register for that you decide you don't need, or you decide that you want something else more. Tastes change, you don't get all your china, you run out of room, etc.

I have returned things to Macy's, and you get a store credit.

However, Bed, Bath and Beyond gives you CASH BACK. No, you don't need receipts or anything- if it was on your registry, and you return it, you get cash back.

I hope this doesn't sound grabby or anything, but frankly, I was really surprised with this. Since I was unexpectedly laid off two weeks before the wedding (thanks, Deutsche Bank), our financial situation is different than we had anticipated, and this has been extremely valuable. There are things we decided we didn't need, and we returned them and we are using the money to buy a computer, which we desperately need. I know our guests would be happy knowing that they helped us get something we really need.

Okay, that's it. Just wanted to pass that along. Especially in this day and age of stores going out of business, I'm comforted knowing that we won't wind up with a bunch of store credits, and then that store goes out of business.

I hope this helps someone!! Best of luck with everything!! And ps- I'm not knocking Macy's. Just thought the Bed Bath return policy was very helpful.

BB&B is great if the items you are returning are in your list.. I had a great shower but I didnt get the item I mostly need the vacum, so I return a couple of items and use a 20v% coupon and as they didnt have the vacc um I register for in the store they order it for me with free shipping to my house. Great costumer service

Thanks soooo much. We noticed that they both had the same items (BBB cheaper) and pulled a lot off of our Macy's registry.

I was just thinking I should have put some more on, or put some back on it b/c a lot of my family has macy's cards, but you just changed my mind. Thanks again!

Good luck with the finding a job!

wow thats great news !

I called before registering and they said that they give store credit - maybe they just don't announce this ? - but I called only because someoneelse on liweddings also said they give cash back. I guess this is still in effect !

Blah, I personally think Macy's return policy *****. A gift card no matter what?? Ugh. Not cool!

This thread was the primary reason for our BBB registry because before I just had an Amazon registry and a Target one. One day I was at Target and heard a girl arguing trying to return a coffee maker that was on her registry and they made her add another one to return it and it seemed like a headache so I just moved everything over. We have most of what we want so I added things we wouldn't mind having so if we can get cash back, we will.

I just recently started by BBB registry and the women in the store who was helping us register said that this policy is no longer in effect - that's is only store credit.

Is she just told to say that!?! I would LOVE if the cash back option was still the norm!

They will giev you cash back as long as it was is shown as being purchased off the registry... someone bought me my coffee maker but didnt take it off the registry... i had to bring it back (bc i got 2 of the same) and even with a gift receipt, they would only give me store credit.... they wouldnt budge on the cash back....

That's really annoying. Why wouldn't it be taken off the registry? I guess if they just bought it but ugh what if they just don't think about it or forget, I have a lot of old ladies coming to my shower!

The person who gave it to me is someone that i didnt expect a gift from at all... and really just got it for me bc they love their own .... so i dont even think they knew i had it on my registry... weird situation... but thats how that happened... i think lol

I was told that I will get store credit at Macy's. I ONLY registered for a few things at Macy's (my mother was upset with this decision).

I told Bed Bath and Beyond that we should be able to rank things with stars on how badly we need/ want things. For example, right now I really need glass cups and could careless if I recieved my second gravy boat... so I would rank glass cups with a lot of stars and the second gravy boat with one or two...

The guy at Bed Bath and Beyond thought it was a good idea and said he would tell the company (which I doubt he will), but we should be able to rank things according to our desire of them.

Amazon registry allows you to do this.
