If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I'm thinking of sending out announcements but not having an e-party.

FI thinks it's a waste of wedding money to have an e-party.

Thoughts? Was anyone offended to get only an announcement? Any comments from friends/family who got an announcement about why there was no e-party?

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I don't think anyone will get offended if you don't have a party and send out announcements. If you have a party and send announcements to everyone you didn't invite you might have some pissed off guests.

an e-party does not have to be a full blown affair

a few family&friends can bring a dish &
come over & celebrate.

I did that & it was wonderful !!

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I had an engagement party(that my parents paid for) and to be honest we made double & half of what my parents paid for the party -

every one said have one have one. and i never really wanted it. but i am glad we did because we made a great profit and it helped us out ALOT with the wedding

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

We are sending out annoucements/save the dates around our 1 year mark...We made it very clear to everyone that we were not having any type of party...My family had a BBQ in the summer with immediate family...Considering we are paying for this wedding, we did not want to have the expense of an engagement part...to me, it is just something to be sent out so people are aware of the plans...Plus, I am making them myself

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

It's a great Idea to sent the announcements w/o a party. We just got our announcements today and we took our pics already and we're not having a party. And I might sound gready but it would be REALLY nice if ppl send gifts even though there will be no party. We also put in the announcment cards at the bottom it say's that we set a date w/the date of our wedding just to let ppl know ahead of time.

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

FH and I didnt have an eparty for the same reason. Instead we invested 40 bucks into save the date/e-announcements. I think it was a fantastic idea and a great way to save money.

But just dont get offended if you dont get engagementgifts. We found people (except family) just dont give gifts unless there is a party.

Good luck!

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I sent out engagement announcements. BE CAREFUL! I intendedthem only for immediate family (I made them myself and sent pics in them, so they were expensive, plus you have to be carefu, you don't wan tto send it to somsone you larter decide not to invite to the wedidng). I intended it to be jst for my close fmaily (aunts uncles, first cousins) because I have a huge family and it would just save me the phone calls. FH's mom wanted to send them to everyone...I refused...and then it became this mes, all these people got OFFENDED when they didn't get one. It was so fucked up. Also I sent an email with pictures to my best friends and relaly immediat4e family (just parents, really), and FMIL sent it to EVERYONE and they got pised tat i hadn't sent it. Anyway it was really personal and wasn't meant for the world to see, but I'm off topic..

Anyway we sound out engagement announcements, and not that its about gifts, but some people sent gifts right away, and other,s including doug's aunt and uncle (who are his godparents mind you) said they would wait for a party to give agift. We weren't planning on having a party. My mom just wanted to host a dinner with just like aprents and siblings, that's it..grrrrr...it's frustrating..it'll be your first tasteof interfamily politics!

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I'm not having an e-party. I didn't send out announcements because I got engaged in May and it's now October. Isn't it too late? I've kinda told most people word of mouth.

That's what worries me, possible inter-family politics. We already had this issue with the destination wedding to Mexico. Family balked at the idea saying it was too far and/or too expensive. I hope the engagment announcements don't start anything. There will be no wedding date on them though.

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

We didn't do anything either. I just feel it becomes overwhelming. IT's a lot to plan and it is a burden for some people to give a gift for an E-party, shower and then wedding.

So we announced our engagment by sending Save the Dates. It let them know we are engaged and we want them to share our day. Everyone loved them!!! We received cards and invites for drinks and/or dinner from those who wanted to do a little something.

As for the e-party - I know LOTS of girls who've gotten married and only 1 had one. I think its a personal decision and it depends on your situation.

GOod luck!

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I didn't have an engagement party or send out engagement announcements. Personally, I don't think either is necessary. But, there's no connection between the two either - if you want to do one and not the other, that's totally acceptable.

Just do NOT include registry info with the announcement. One of FH's work friends did that

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

I would send Save the Dates instead.

I didn't have an engagement party but I wanted too. Not because I expected/wanted gifts but because I was sooooooo excited about being engaged and wanted to party with my friends and family. The timing wasn't right so I didn't have one

We sent engagement announcements when we got engaged and did not have an e-party and everyone loved them. It was a great way to let people know that we got engaged and on what date we got engaged.

Re: If you sent out engaged announcements but had no e-party - read this

My mother had an 'informal' e-party. Just my FH's brothers and wives and my brothers and their wives. It was more of a 'meet and greet' because my mother wanted to meet his family. The gifts we received were a bonus!!
