If you're over budget and you're not afraid to post it.......

Original post by akaMrsT

For some reason I am hearing 'clap your hands' right now in my head

So, we are $1,788.31 over budget (assuming we book a vendor that is $500 over the budget).

Anyone else going over

<--- ALMOST looks like hands clapping... We're $3,000 over budget, BUT it's because our original budget was VERY unrealistic and we didn't know it. We still did really well for the $$ and splurged on a few things...

Umm, befor I started pricing stuff out I thought that I could do a wedding in nyc for 15k. Umm, so after I booked my hall I was WAY over budget. Since then we have revised our budget and I think I am only a few thousand over. A few thousand? It makes me sick just to think about it! Where is the barfing icon?

We never really knew how much all this wedding stuff cost. So we are WAY over budget, but I think it's worth it. We spent on things that were important to us and saved on things that weren't.

We had a lot of help from our parents financially, so we are lucky.

We are about $12K over our original budget. From the original budget I revised it to add 10K, but we are still over that . Oh well, FH & I are happy with everything extra we got and would not cut out a thing. We are not putting anything on a credit card or taking out loans for this, so that is why we are ok with spending more than we originally thought we were going to spend. As long as we do not go into debt for the wedding and are still able to pay our mortgage and bills, we are ok.

Wow! You guys are having majorly extravagant weddings. lol. Our budget was set at about 5,000 TOTAL. I think we're going to be able to keep about 1,200 to buy furniture, etc. Part of the reason for that is that my mom is a coupon clipping queen. And, we're doing a lot ourselves. Plus, our photographer is only charging us for the film, our caterer is only charging us for the cost of food, and our DJ is doing it for free.

Keep in mind too, that it's not so much that our weddings are extravigent, that's the price you pay for a Long Island/NYC wedding. I've been to weddings in other parts of the country that were just as 'elaborate' as mine, but cost almost 3 times less than mine did.

OH PLEASE. I've been off budget from day 1. My dress, and it all went downhill from there.

Duh! I completely forgot about the price differences. Sorry 'bout that. lol. 'Cause to me, 5,000 is a freakin' lot of money! lol.

I guess we never set a budget, but I had a number in mind. Well I just went through everything and am well over what I had hoped to spend to the tune of 5K

Oh well, it will all be worth it in the end

we never even set an actual strict budget. we started planning and before we knew it we were at a number so we were like okay, bad but not to the point where we are killing ourselves...

then MONTHS later we totaled it again and it was about a $12,000 difference... how that happened I have no idea and still don't....

needless to say, i'm afraid to total it EVER again!

same here! We didn't even have a budget, it's scary enough just planning a wedding!

Re: If you're over budget and you're not afraid to post it.......

How can you logically set a budget if you don't know how much stuff costs?

When you get engaged unless you have done this before, you can't possible know.

Most newly engaged couples go into sticker shock when they go check out venues and then they realize whatever budget they set is unrealistic.

It's the chicken/egg syndrome. You set a budget, then find out how much stuff costs, then re-set the budget.

Didn't expect to see this bumped

We are, as of today, $2424.75 over budget And this is even after all of my research prior to booking a single thing Then again, we both know that photo/video is what did us in and we think it will be worth it

We did the opposite. We researched the costs of everything and even contacted some vendors we wanted to use to see about pricing for the dates we had in mind. After getting those prices, then we set a budget
