If you're parents are paying for your wedding, but you and FH live on your own...

Original post by glinda_goodwitch

where do you send the reply cards? FH and I are organizing the whole guest list and my mother became insanely mad when I said I thought the replys would come to us. So every time someone replys, she would have to call and let us know.
Also, it's more exciting for me to open the replys since I'M the one getting married Is it tradition to have them sent to the person who is paying for the wedding? It will be clear on the invitation wording that my parents are paying.

The return address on the invites is my parent's house (and it probably looks funny since we sent them from Seattle), and the RSVPs are going to me. I read somewhere that the RSVPs should go to the bride since she typically does the seating. I have the article bookmarked somewhere in case I needed it in an arguement (luckily, I did not). Hang on, let me look....

Oh, and our invites are worded as 'together with their parents'
My parents are paying about 2/3s, and we are chipping in the rest. And that is a whole other story......

ETA to fix spelling

Ok, here is the link:
RSVP to 'organizer'

I hope this helps. My mom has had more than her fair share of meltdowns through this process - I am supposed to me like her and let MY mother plan the whole thing like she did. We need a 'save us from our own mothers' support thread. Lucky for me, I have the greatest FMIL EVER!!!!!

You know what? Me too! I love my FMIL so much! I want nothing to do with my mother and the only reason I ever visit is for the sake of my father. Thanks so much for the article, but I don't think my mother can be reasoned with. It's worse than talking to a child.

I can't imagine why your mom would insist that the RSVP's come to her if you really want them sent to you

I think our parent's generation is very hung up on etiquette and ways of the past.

The RSVPs for the e-party went to my parents and we learned our lesson - they hounded us abt people who didnt RSVP yet and asked us to contactv them anyway - I say eliminate the middle man and have the RSVPs go to us - I guess when we get to that we'll see if that will be a battle!
