So I am in a wedding next June (08). the bride just sent out an e-mail to all of us (maids) and asked for our measurements so she could go an order us a dress. Isnt that a little, hm, i dont know the word i want to use. She didnt even have us try the dresses on to see if we liked them. Of course they look good on the model on the comp but they sure as hell wont look the same on me. And to top it off, she said she wants to keep it as close to $300 as possible if not lower. I know that might not seem like a lot to some of you, but I am on a budget myself. her parents are paying for her wedding and they are very comfy with money so maybe it doesnt seem like a lot to her. am i wrong to think these things? My mom said i should ask her to try and keep it lower than that but i dont feel i have a right. I told my mom i would step down b4 that happens.
HELP ME!!!! \
OH AND PLEASE DONT QUOTE> IM NOT SURE IF SHE COMES ON SO I MIGHT BE DELETING THIS.

Re: IM A BRIDESMAID....VENT
ohh man i`d be soo pissed!!! i think you need to talk to her and tell her that you have your own wedding to save for and all that right now that if she wants you to take part in her day she either needs to find something in your (whatever you think you`d want to spend) price range or you`d be stepping down as bridesmaid. i know it seems rude and hurtful but she`s got to understand that not everyone has that kind of money to throw around. especially right now, with your own wedding and having to buy them gifts on top of a $300 dress. maybe seeing as how she`s not paying for the wedding she`d be willing to help you out and pay half of the dress??

I know how frustrating it can be but on the brighter side if it is ordered in Jersey you don't have to pay tax on it!!!

Re: IM A BRIDESMAID....VENT
As far as her not having you try on the dress to see if you all like it, I wouldn't worry about that... it suucks and it happens (happened to me for my cousin's wedding... she just gave us the style # and the place to get it and that was that), but regardless of whether you were trying on dresses left and right, someone wasn't going to be happy with the final choice.
As far as the $300... I would definitely drop a subtle hint that $300 is a little pricey and maybe suggest designers that have lower prices... maybe you can ask her if she's like any help in looking for the perfect dress for all of you.
Good luck!

$300 is pricey I think- I am trying to stay at 200 or so if possible- my fsil is am bm and always tight on money and her daughter is also my jr bridesmaid, so I feel bad spending a lot.
as for the dress- my sister (MOH) is helping me pick it out- we will take everyone's body shape into consideration, but i like what i like (hope that wasnt too bridezilla lol)

I guess if she wants the dress she wants but I would def. mention to her that $300 is out of your budget and make her aware. You might not be the only one who feels that way.

Re: IM A BRIDESMAID....VENT
i'm sorry, that stinks!! i was only in one wedding - my brothers. my SIL went w us to RK, told us to find something yellow that we liked, we all agreed on one and it was $140. it was the best situation i could have asked for. obviously most girls already know what they want, and they want their girls to wear their vision...but i agree, i personally think $300 is a lot to ask each girl to spend, on top of all that you'll have to contribute for parties, gifts, etc. but it's hard to say that to a bride to be. i got upset when my FMIL told me i shouldn't have registered at macy's b/c it's too expensive!! we're all sensitive right now.
i'll keep my fingers crossed for you that she finds something she LOVES for around $150!! you never know...
