Is this a song that YOU like or one YOUR father likes?
What I mean is that I have a song that I like for the both of us but my father probably has never heard the song before. Do you think I should do a song that he would like (ie Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka) or something more modern that I like.
Hmmm....am I too confusing? Please help!

i thought it was a song that had a special meaning for the two of you...so could be either one that you like or one that he likes...

I definitely think I'm going to run the song by my father first, and also ask him if he has any suggestions that he can think of. I wouldn't want it to be some song he's never heard before.

I have to do the traditional Hispanic Father/Daughter type song. If you can get out of that....DO IT!! I wish I could pick something more like us!!! But, I think my grandma will get up and yell 'Stop playing that song! It's the wrong one! Play this one!' and hand them a tape and disown me for all time!

I had picked out one of my and my dad's favorite Beach Boy songs, but he thought that it might be to hard to dance too. So, I ended up picking out a song(Billy Joel's Lullabye) and had him listen to see if he liked it. He loved it, I loved it, so we used it.

My dad chose the song. He hasn't made any other requests and I felt that it should have been his choice anyway.

I think it could also be one that sends a message from you to him. I will be dancing with my mom and plan on choosing one that shows my feelings for her.

i don't have a special song with my father. i plan on burning 5 I like on a CD and asking him to pick one he likes.
Don't worry if you do not have a song that has 'special meaning' to you and your dad-pick one you like, and after the wedding, it WILL have a special meaning.

I told my dad a few songs that I liked, he listened to them, then listened to a few other and we picked it together. We are dancing to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.

As long as he likes it, I see no problem with it. It woudl be nice to make sure he hears it first. I picked 'Isn't She Lovely' to avoid the whole sobbing factor!

I think it can go both ways. I tried to pick a song that we both liked and that had meaningful words without being too sappy.

I actually never told my dad what we were dancing to ... he heard it when the music started!!
It was a Sinatra song because he taught me how to dance the lindy to Sinatra when I was a little girl ...

I definitely agree with all the other ladies - you should include dad in the process - see if he has any ideas, and if not, make some suggestions, and pick one you both like. Good luck!
