ugh this is adding to my dress anxiety ... im afraid that they wont have dresses for me to try on
ok - i wear a 12ish (sometimes 14, sometimes 10) will they have dresses for me to try? I already feel bad enough about my fat self - i dont need to walk in there, and then them tell me that they have nothing for me to try on
I think we're probably about the same size. Some of the samples were toooooo small (the 8's mainly), the 10's were okay, tight, but you get the idea. The 12's fit perfectly with a little tighness (b/c my thighs are fat, lol). I had a pretty decent experience trying on dresses, sometimes I felt kinda fat and sometimes I didn't (like when I tried on some Maggie Sottero's and the gown that I eventually bought). And I'm going to spill the beans and say that my dress was ordered in a 16 because they had to fit the dress around my boobs, which is my main problem....
I think you'll be fine
Thank you! you have made me feel so much better i am also the same size.

Sample Sizes lie! Actually, bridal gown sizes lie. My dress size is 2 sizes bigger than I wear in pants. LETS REVOLT.
Yeah, what is up with that?

Ditto with the size! I’m still worried though—I’m starting to look this Saturday!

Re: i'm fat
it's just so hard to imagine myself in those size 10 dresses. i mean, if i'm supposed to be 8 sizes larger, how the hell is that supposed to help me decide, oh yeah, this is it - i love the way the waist is up to my neck and my hips pop out & stretch the seams that way - oh yes-- great dress!
and don't get me started with the backs of smaller dresses... i think i have a great imagination, but not that vivid.

Just thinking about having to squeeze my lard @ss into a dress before losing any weight makes me sad!!!! I guess it can be done...but Id really like to lose some before dress shopping. Id like to be a bride that says 'I do', not 'I moo'

No you are not fat!
Bridal gowns, as you know, are cut so tini tiny so its not even you! Its the gown!
I went to Bridal Suite in Bayshore and they had LOTS of dresses I could try on. Some didnt zip all the way, but I could get the idea. A lot were larger than my size. Check them out if you havent already. I worked with Mary Ellen. She was so sweet.
As for the peanut butter ice cream.. YUMMMMM!! I have been buying the blue bunny peanut butter ice cream bars. They have chocolate on the outside and PB cupd throughout. YUM! They are made w/ spenda so I dont feel guilty after eating them.

Here's the OFFICIAL info...
Wedding dresses are 4 sizes smaller than they read. A size 12 is really a size 8.... I spoke to someone at I think it was Alfred Angelo about this...
I was feeling HORRID about myself with all that stuff too. I was going to go on a major diet and then I realized that one of my friends did that and now every time she looks at her wedding pics she's like, oh look how small I was. I don't want to look back on my pics and remember how small I was and i'm not now...i want to remember what a great day it was, etc...
SO - i decided no diet, but don't binge eat either...
I got my dress at the best place in the world...total find!!! It's in PA - i know - quite a drive - but 100% worth it!!!! They have an entire building of plus size dresses & there is NO trying on a dress with a size 2 girl next to you to make you feel worse. The building has roughly 200 dresses that you can try on and they are all the same styles of the smaller ones - just bigger. It was SUCH a relief to me to close a dress & have room to move and breathe!!!! Went twice, second time, came home with my gown!!!

Re: i'm fat
Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup is my guilty pleasure. The problem is that I almost ALWAYS polish off the whole pint in like, 15 minutes. I remember my reaction when I read the label one day and it was 25g of fat per serving and there are apparently 4 servings in a pint...that's 100 grams of fat in ONE TINY LITTLE PINT!!!!!!! I almost fell over and died. Now I only eat peanut butter cup ice cream on special occasions........btw, I tend to make-up special occasions quite frequently....'Oh so-and-so is on tv tonight time to get some ice cream!!!!'

i think we all worry about these types of things - especially when it comes to our bodies....
i am so short and tiny that i am afraid that everything is going to look ridiculous on me or that i am going to look like a communion girl instead of bride
i am really excited to go dress shopping but i'm already afraid that all the styles that i like are going to be to much for my frame.
i wish i could grow some nice long legs lol lol

Hm, maybe a trip to PA is in my future? Lol
I’m also torn about the weight thing…I want to slim down and make sure my arms aren’t crazy jingly, but like you said, I want to be able to recognize myself too, lol. My mom did flat out state that she wants me to lose weight before my wedding. Thanks Mom I console myself by reminding myself that she looks like Skeletor in her wedding day pics

My mom said the same thing but I told her this is not your day - it's mine & if my FH is happy with me the way I am, and I am too(but i'm not) - then who cares, but us??? She has no idea that all of her ' you are fat' comments have destroyed my self esteem, but that's a whole other story...

Re: i'm fat
First of all, I looked at your pictures, YOU ARE NOT FAT!!!! Second, don't pay any attention to the size, just go for whatever dress YOU love, and makes YOU look and feel great. Dress sizes have always been different from what people usually wear and then they alter them to fit you. Please just enjoy your day and don't let a number on a tag bum you out.

Re: i'm fat
i'm totally with you on this one... i'm not fat, but i'm totally not fit either, and my bust makes it impossible to try on sample gowns.
they need to stock more sizes, not everyone can fit into a 6 or an 8!!
ps youre totally not fat. go eat the icecream

Re: i'm fat
Had a TOTAL breakdown tonight. I put on my gown to check the neckline for jewelery purposes and had a meltdown - totally freaked on my FH for taking dumb pics. Totally not his fault - but i think i need therapy. I cannot stand how i look and it's gotten to the point of being really, really bad...

honestly.. I feel like your wedding is the 1 day you want to feel AMAZING.. and shopping for your wedding dress should be SO much fun..
Wedding dress designers should make the dress sizes like 2-3 sizes SMALLER than normal so you feel FABULOUS trying them on!!!
Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let's start sending some petitions to dress makers!!!!!!
I would sign my name right on top of that peition!!! It's sooooooo frustrating!!!

Re: i'm fat
Isnt it said that clothes in general are sized smaller than they were like 50 yrs ago.. Like they say Marilyn Monroe wore a size 12, but they say in todays sizes thats like an 8.. Maybe im completely making it up but perhaps the wedding industry just never got the memo.
