I'M FUMING....Am I overreacting?

Original post by prncssrachel

I'm about to EXPLODE. F-ing JT's parents FINALLY said they'd pay for a rehearsal dinner for us, you know, since they're not paying for ANYTHING AT ALL for our wedding and his mother IS NOT BUYING A DRESS...so where do they book it? Well at a place that I told them I got food poisoning from, AND a place that is a steakhouse, knowing I don't eat meat. ONTOP of that, JT's mother told him that THEY REFUSE to pay for an open bar, everyone has to BUY THEIR OWN DRINKS I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed. So now MY WONDERFUL FAMILY THAT IS PAYING FOR ALMOST ALL OF OUR WEDDING has to buy their OWN drinks? That's SOOOOOO F-CKED UP I can't even imagine it. I'm paying for the ******* open bar myself. There's NO REASON IN THE WORLD why my family should have to pay for their drinks when these miserable people have done NOTHING else for this wedding.

Looks like you and FH have already come to agreement on how to handle the RD, but if it were me, I would think about not having a RD at all. You could tell his family you just decided it was unnecessary. Then, you, FH and your immediate family could just gather after the church for an informal, 'spontaneous' meal. It would be more relaxed and enjoyable than this RD is bound to be. But you couldn't invite a lot of people or word would get out to his family.

Good luck!

Ok - So YOU don't eat red meat and you FMIL booked your RD at a STEAKHOUSE ??? -
Like she's doing you a favor by paying for something you cant' even eat ?? -
The RD is the least of your problems. - You need to sit down w/ you FH and tell him to start standing up for You ! (if he can't do it for himself, he's going to have to learn to do it for you) otherwise you're going to be an aggravated mess everytime you have to deal w/ her b/c she is obviously just being spiteful toward you !

Just because they booked it, do you really have to keep it there? Since your FH doesn't seem to want to speak up, can you sit down with her and tell her, since you had a problem with the venue in the past, you'd prefer to do it elsewhere? I would just find out what they want to spend, ask for the $$ and throw in the rest myself. I know, easier said than done but something tells me if you don't put this woman in her place now, this kind of behavior will never end.

Good luck

I agree with Wedhead! Definitely ask her if she will put the $$$ towards another place! I cannot believe she booked the rehearsal dinner without even CONSULTING you! Your FH needs to speak up NOW or else she is going to continue to think she can do whatever the heck she wants forever!!!!

Good LUCK with everything!!!

Re: I'M FUMING....Am I overreacting?

Hi girls....So I'm a little calmer today. Geez, could you tell how frantic I was the last couple of days over this??? But I have to keep my perspective. I know his parents are awful and my family knows that they bite, and I have to remember that poor JT grew up with these two monsters as his parents. It is not a touchy subject between JT and I because it is just blatantly obvious how crappy his parents are and were his whole life. My family has adopted him as their own, and he told my parents that they are the real parents he never had These people will continue to suck for the rest of our lives together and there's nothing the two of us can do about it. We've tried to talk to them about various things on numerous occassions, but they just don't want a part of anything that resembles a conversation with us.
I agree with everyone about JT needing to stand up to his mother and all, but I gave it some thought and had a conversation with him today. I told him that I would leave it up to him to talk to his parents if he wanted to, but that I know that it will not do any good, so I will totally understand if he does not even want to go there with trying to talk to them. They just DON'T get it. They think my parents have a million dollars to give us and splurge on us. They think JT and I have millions of dollars. They see only what they WANT to see, so we will never get them to look at this the way we want. The best we can do is distance ourselves from them until it becomes rarer and rarer that we see them. He is just so paralyzed by his mother, and that's not going to change between now and our wedding.
Ok, now I'm babbling because I'm so tired. But thanks everyone for letting me vent. I needed it badly!
