Im going crazy

Trying to decide on a hall... I heard the Three Village Inn is nice too. But what do I do if the church is in Westbury and then I have a reception out east? Like Stonybrook??? Help!!!!!

Re: Im going crazy

Why don't you see if you can find a place that you like that is closer than going out east.

Re: Im going crazy

AHHHHHHh FH likes so far all the halls out east, but I dont know what to do about where the church is to where the reception will be ( most likely out east- which I like too) but I feel bad for the guest who have to drive like an hour to get there. And then I dont know how much time to give between the two either. Never thought these decisions would rack my brains out and give me a headache

Re: Im going crazy

If you really want the hall out east, then maybe you might have to change your church. Also, how long would it take for people to get from where the church is to the hall. Remember that no matter where it is, your friends and family are going to come and see you.

Re: Im going crazy

If people want to come, they will come no matter what. I have driven ridiculous distances for weddings. I complained but I still did it. One friend's church was in Jamaica Estates Queens and the reception was at Flowerfield. In the end it didn't matter because I enjoyed being there. Do what makes you happy.

Re: Im going crazy

Maybe you could get a bus for your guests -- I know some people on the board are doing that. The added benefit is that if it takes them to a hotel where a lot of people are staying you don't have to worry about drunk drivers.
Alternatively, if your church allows it, perhaps you could have the minister come out to Stony Brook -- I know that the Three Village Inn had facilities for ceremonies.
GOod luck.

Re: Im going crazy

getting a church closer to the reception hall isn't going to cut your guests driving time (if your guest list is like mine was, most folks will either be coming from nearby your local church or off LI). Just allow plenty of time between events - it'll be fine.

Our church and reception were about 25 minutes apart, but originally I was looking at a hall an hour away.

Guests can book rooms near the reception if they're concerned with the drive. Pick the place thats right for you.

Re: Im going crazy

I agree with lisat. Our ceremony was in Seaford, and our reception was in Port Jeff. Most of the people that came to our ceremony were from Nassau or out of towners. Most of our guests from Suffolk county just went to our reception (which I think is rude, but what can you do?)

Re: Im going crazy

I think it will be fine. Just leave enough time in between for guests to get from one to another. Do you have an idea of where/if you'd like to take pictures between ceremony and reception? Make sure to have enough time to do what you want to do!!

I've travelled some distances like that for friends' weddings-no big deal.

How important is it to have your ceremony at that church??

Re: Im going crazy

I think your family will travel regardless of where it is to be there for your day. I certainly have been to a handful of weddings where the ceremony was in Suffolk and the reception was in Nassau or vice-versa... just like a previosu post said, try to give your guests time for travel. Good luck!

Re: Im going crazy

Girly,
Have you considered the Carltun in Eisenhower Park for your reception? It is beautiful there and is only a hop, skip and jump from St. Brigids. Which BTW is a beautiful church

Re: Im going crazy

I don't think I would worry about it too much. Pick the places that you love. Your friends and family will be there for you. I have been invited to weddings where the ceremony is in queens and the reception is in NJ and it was fine.

Re: Im going crazy

My friend from work is having his reception there. His church is in Baldwin. He says he had no worries about the traveling because he and his FW really wanted the Three Villiage Inn.
If you really want it then go for it.

Re: Im going crazy

I say so what you want, especially if it's important to you
But do prepare for people that won't show up to the Ceremony, b/c they only want to drive once.
In the end, the Ceremony is about you and your FH saying your vows, and uniting. It is a beautiful thing. You won't be concerned about the headcount.

Re: Im going crazy

I'm also getting married @ St. Brigid's! Such a gorgeous church, I would never think of getting married anywhere else. Our reception is @ the Hamlet G&CC. Very nice place, one wedding only, beautiful grounds - if you're getting married in the nicer weather, lots of pic's outside.

I think you should go where you want, it's your day ... you can't please everyone anyway. We're having cocktails @ 7pm in order to let people travel, check into hotel (Wynham in Haupauge), whatever. It gives plenty of time & no one feels rushed ... especially US!

good luck!!
Christine
