I'm kinda fed up....(looooong sorry)

Hey girls, I really really need to vent..Today was the first time that I actually didn't have fun planning this wedding...My Fh and I are paying for the entire thing and it really hit me today-the amount of money that we are spending is crazy! We could have a nice little house by now.
It all started with trying to find someone to do my hair. I had gotten a recomendation from a well known hair dresser on this site because she wasn't available that day. So I had called this person and she is available, the only catch is that I have to go to the salon for the trial. Thats okay, but the salon is in Manhattan and she charges $100 for the trial. That means that I have to truck all the way into the city for an $100 trial by someone that I have never seen their work. So now I'm back to square one. I need someone for my hair- that will come to me-in suffolk on my wedding day.
So after that big let down I went to a well known Florist in Nassua for an appointment and they gave me this really out of control price and I'm not even having any flowers on the tables in my reception. Does anyone else feel like they are at the wedding vendor's mercy??? They know that we as brides need them and think money is no object, I can think of something better than flowers to spend $2000 on..

I can totally relate as I'm sure a number of other bride to be's can. There are plenty of times when I think the same as you...that all this $$ we are spending can go toward a home. Hang in there...I'm banking on what a lot of people tell me and that is that you make a nice percentage of what you lay out back. Good luck and remember, you are not alone

Oh man, I can relate! If you put the word 'wedding' in front of anything, it doubles the price! The way I try to look at it is that it's a once in a lifetime day. We can always make more money, and buy a house a little later, but we will never have this chance again.I've resigned myself to the fact that we are spending a ridiculous amount of money on just one day.
Keep looking around for more affordable vendors, they are out there! If you want the #'s of some hair people, FM me.

Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean. We are also spending an arm and a leg and I PRAY we get a significant amount back when it's all said and done

thanks girls, at least i know that i'm not the only one that feels like this. honestly up until today i was just going along with everything and accepting that it is the most important day of our lives and that we should do only the best. but i dont want to have any debt or have put any money made that day to paying it off.

i know that everything always works out in the end. thanks again

Its true! Put the word wedding in front of it and they charge way more than its worth. two hundred for a piece of tulle on a comb?????Come on!! I made mine for 40.oo. Shop around by all means. You dont need to get ripped off.I wouldnt drive to manhatten for a 100.00 trial either. there are people in your area Im sure. go for someone local who doesnt 'specialize in weddings'and you will pay half the price. remember you CAN bargain people down by telling them you just dont want to pay for a delux package and you are on a budget. Any reputable vendor will work with you. I found the ones I'm using were really understanding about our budget. Just my 2 cents. You have options!

I completely understand. I initially wanted to go to an island with close friends and family to get hitched but my FI wanted to get married in church. I have a HUGE family so the cost of the wedding is just gross. So on Sunday my FI looks at me and goes maybe we should have done the island thing. All I could do was laugh.

O my goodness, you are sooooo right. I just had my first round of vendors today and I feel great and horrible all at the same time. I am only having 8 tables at my wedding and I am getting a quote for centerpieces alone for $1600 I just think that is insane, but on the day of the wedding you will totally think it was all worth it.

I can relate... we have to pay for most of ours ourselves and it gets overwhelming especially when you're trying to plan the wedding of your dreams but it is just completely out of your prisce range. Relax..Everything will work out

There are moments when this all SUCKS but we're all here and have been through it all - so vent away!

How many tables do you think you'll be having? A friend of mine recently did the centerpieces for her own wedding and they came out really well. She got low but wide opaque glass containers from a craft store and some floral mold and got roses and assorted flowers from Costco and made her own centerpieces for about $20 each.

I also saw some BEAUTIFUl centerpieces of tall vases with Calla Lillies that I think cost the bride about $30 each.

Try www.flowerbud.com for bulk flowers. Click on the wedding link at the bottom of the page.

You could also do candle centerpieces - that would be beautiful and less expensive than a full scale florist would charge.

Good luck!
