I'm new! Looking for a recepiton/ceremony location for Fall 2004?
I have just moved to the area and do not know much about the different locations available. Can anyone give me suggests to at least start me on the road? I am on somewhat of a budget but want to explore all the different options. Thanks

I dont know the area well, im planning from New Jersey, but we are getting married at teh George Washington manor. Its beautiful for fall and winter weddings, because it has fireplaces throughout, even in the bathroom!! The price is great, we are having a friday january wedding. The people are great that work there and I ahve never heard one bad thing about it. Ive done surprise show ups to eat there and the food is always amazing. Its worth checking out. Wlecome and congratulations on yoru engagement!!!

Welcome and congratulations! I got all my reception info from Long Island Weddings magazine. The have a section of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens and then for each catering hall it's indicated all sorts of info that you need like max # of people, whether it's one wedding or multiple, outdoor availability, approx. price per head, etc.
And I got the magazine free at a bridal expo at the Milleridge Inn. You can get a lot of info at those too. Good luck!

Here's a good list of Long Island Reception Halls from Newsday, the links aren't included, but it gives good information and you can serach the web with the name. The list of all the reception halls starts on page 33. Newsday Long Island Weddings of Distinction
ETA: Congratulations and welcome!

Are you interested in Nassau, Suffolk, etc. That would give you a better idea of where to start your search. Also determine whta your budget is, since there is no point looking at a place if it is way beyond your budget.

Welcome to 'our club'!!
Congrats on your !! I'm a little biased, but my hall has both a fireplace with a cozy homey feeling , but also has a spectacular view of the water & golf course....it's the Timber Point country club and they are part the lessings corporation...you can check out all their locations through their website at www.lessing.com.
Good Luck and just know that we are all here for any help you need!! ~Shana

Welcome! I'm a newbie here, too -- enjoy all the sage advice from these experts -- there's a ton of info on this site.
Anyway, another great resource for reception locations is www.locationsmagazine.com -- the site itself is a little annyoing, but once you get the navigation down, there are a ton of locations with their websites listed.
Congrats and enjoy!

Fortunoffs has free magazines in the same area that you go to, to register. They are a good guide, but are somewhat limited, so check out the Web sites everyone recommended too. I strongly recommend that you drive around in Oct. and look at how the different places are decorated for fall.

Hello & Welcome.
I know just how you feel. I'm from Texas originally but been here about 4 years. Never been to a wedding here and was lost myself.
Advice A) Get a round number. How many people do you expect?
Advice B) Budget? What's your price range?
Advice C) Check out all the links, magazines, and other resources these fine ladies recommend. Help me tons.
Advise D) START EARLY!!! GO NOW! Look around. See the place. Picture it for your wedding. Shop around and be happy.
Congrats on the engagement and welcome to the boards!!!!
PS Hop over to 2004 board from time to time for more info. Plus we 2004 brides are meeting in October this year to swap ideas and talk things through, you're welcome to join!!!

This piece of advice is probably redundant, but when you put your budget together, be sure to include any service charges as well as tax. If you are having a big wedding, these can really add up!

welcome
i agree, first figure out how much you can spend and divide by the number of guests.. and remember most places give you a rate then its PLUS gratuity, PLUS tax, they dont say that in the first place and the number seems lower...

know in your mind number of guests and cost you are looking to spend per person. That will hel you decide on locations that fit your needs. Then you can see what styles you like.
