I'm new! Looking for a recepiton/ceremony location for Fall 2004?

Original post by jamie06

I have just moved to the area and do not know much about the different locations available. Can anyone give me suggests to at least start me on the road? I am on somewhat of a budget but want to explore all the different options.
Thanks

I never liked the 'locations' idea b/c many places looked much nicer in pics than in person, so I spent way too much time running around. I'd say get a def. idea of what you want (on the water, glitzy, simple, bbq on the beach, a b&b) and then look for specific places that cater to your taste.

I liked some places that were not in those magazines like the Nassau Cty museum of art, a farm in queens, the gansett green manor in amagansett, some of the private vineyards (not vineyard caterers), etc.

We ended up choosing the Harrison House in Glen Cove, which I think might be in the books. It had a much higher list price than we ended up paying though, and a higher minimum too.

So, my best piece of advice. If you find a place you might like, call them and tell them your guarantee and your budget and ask what they can do to work within that. You may be surprised.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate everyones help. I am definetly taking it slow at first and tryin to get use to the area before I jump into anything!
Any other suggestions would be great or any ideas on how to go about scoping out the different places.

Thanks!

what are u looking in a place? I wanted to be able to look outside not have 4 walls and no windows. I also wanted some water. I decided to go with the swan club. You definetly need to decide what you want your place to be like. Good luck, an welcome

Have you seen the swan Club in the Fall/Winter? The photos of it are great but unsure how it looks in November? Not very familar with the area and don't want to book something that looks great in the summer and looks like crap in the fall/winter.

You also need to decide where the cermony is going to be, you dont want people driving from Nassau county out to The East End or visa versa. I am having my Wedding at The Upper Room Tabernacle in Dix Hills and the Reception is at the Inn at East Wind. You shoudl check out the East Wind their prices were really good if you were willing to work with when you want your wedding. Like I went from May 2004 to November 200, from a Saturday Night to a Saturday Afternoon and all that saved me about $50 a person. Which times 260 people is alot of money. So defenitly shop around and do your homework then come on the boards and get advice about the places before you decide to book. And if price is a concern remeber be flexiable.
