So FMIL finally got her dress. FH tells me about it and says that it is DARK purple. My bridesmaids are wearing a darker violet, which he and FMIL both knew, but since he said dark I figured 'OK, they should be far enough apart that it will be OK.' Well, this is the dress she's wearing in the exact color it will be. The second pic is my bridesmaids dresses in their exact color. Am I nuts for flipping out on him because they are way too close to each other?? Please be honest. Im not looking for people to take my side, I just want to know what other people will be thinking when they see this.
IMO...it wouldn't bother me at all. I think they are far enough apart. Were you afraid that people will think she's part of the bridal party?

I think it's fine. the color is far enough apart that it's ok. My mom is wearing brown and my colors are brown rust and Ivory. MY BM's will be in Euro Cinnamon (deep rust) with ivory sash. Mom will be in chocolate brown FMIL is thinking of wearing gold...FG in Ivory w/ chocolate or rust. It actually winds up looking nice, actually and I think yours will look nice as well. don't be mad...alot of parents think they are SUPPOSED to match your wedding colors.

THat is a gorgeous gown your FMIL picked out, my mom tried that gown on and its really stunning.
I didnt really make any requests as far as colors for the MOG and MOB. However i did ask them that whoever picks their color first to tell me, so my mom and FMIL arent in teh same color gown.
My girls are wearing eggplant, and my mom tried on a gown in eggplant. And she agreed she did not want to be in the same exact color as the BM's
Looking at the pics you posted, they are similar but they are not the same at all. THe gown your FMIL picked out is very fancy with lace and beadwork and is a darker color purple than your BM gowns.
I actually think that they will compliment eachother very very well.

If the color of each dress in the pics is the color of the actual dress they are wearing then I think they will be fine.
They are in the same family but different shades. They should compliment each other. If they are going to be the same color as each other then I would have an issue.

Those dresses look nothing alike to me other than they're in the same color family. They're definitely far apart in color and style. I don't think you need to worry.

Re: Im pissed!! FMIL related
I think the colors are far enough apart that it won't look like she's part of the bridal party or anything BUTTTTTT I completely understand why it would bother you. I asked my FMIL and mom to please try to look for any color other than green (bc BM's are wearing that) and nothing too light bc my dress. And they were both great about it. But my Mom's aunt (my great aunt) bought a dress in celadon green...lol
I was a little annoyed at first but then I realized it wasn't worth saying anything. However, in your situation, I think if it's bothering you this much, I would talk to your FMIL and ask her nicely to see if there are any other colors in this dress that she liked. Explain that you love the dress but the color is a little too close to your BM's. Blame it on the fact you want HER to stand out and shine.

I wasn't afraid that people would think that but I just always thought that the bridal party should be the only ones in the color family.
But now if my mom goes and gets say a navy colored dress (thats one of her possibilities) is she now going to look stupid because she won't cooridinate witht the BP but FH mom does?

That is very sweet of you and I give you tons of credit. I love my mom to death but I'd cry if she asked to wear white. I am normally not the kind that wants to be the center of attention or anything but on my wedding day, I want to be the only one in white! Does that make me sound selfish or rude?
