So I booked a hair and makeup trial last week. The appointment was made about 3 weeks in advance. i showed up for my appointment and no one was there. Make a long story short- the two vendors both forgot about my appointment. The thing is- both vendors are highly recommended by this board. Now, I want to add that i took time off of work- and took a cab across the city to be at this appointment. So with that being said. The vendor EMAILED me an apology- stated that she didn't understand how it fell throught the cracks, and offered to reschedule, when she got back from the Awards, and also offered to pay for my cabfare.
nice right? exactly what i said- i was Actually going to give her another shot.
so i responded that I did think a PHONE CALL would have been better- i mean lets take it an apology for a huge mistake- i think in this case a phonecall should have been made. I also said that because a friend Highly recommended her and the fact that she agreed to pay for my cabfare is why I'm going to give her another shot! I I told her that i hope communication isn't a problem again- and asked her a couple of questions about how long the trials last. - I had to ask because now I only have limited time off of work, and with rescheduling needed to know what i'm looking at.
She then replied that its best we go our separate ways because of your lowered expectations.
I mean, does that make any sense? Why would she offer to reschedule and then take it away? not only that- but this is her mistake. obviously she thinks that I'm going to be a headache and not want to deal with me ( which is not the case).
how would you feel?

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
I would be annoyed and disappointed too but her viewpoint is probably something like 'look, I screwed up and apologized and am willing to pay for it. This bride won't drop it and is being difficult and this one mistake will probably be thrown in my face everytime we meet.'
NOT saying this is what you are actually going to do, but it's probably what the vendor thinks. And unfortunately, once a vendor becomes popular they don't really need to try for new business. Which really stinks in the long run.

yeah i agree with your viewpoint on what they are thinking!
but honestly if a business makes a mistake- they should try to regain your confidence/and trust.
If i made a mistake in my business- I would try my hardest to fix it and regain that customer's confidence.
Trust me, a simple note of reassurance would have been all i needed. I would have been ok if she said some simple words of reassurance at the appointment or in that email.

Clearly this vendor isn't interested in customer relations and seems to have a bit of an ego as well. It's a good thing you guys are not working together!

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
I am wondering if this is the same vendor I had some issues with. Not as bad, but they were almost impossible to get in touch with and you could only talk to them via email. I complained about it once and someone said, oh well they don't like to give out their phone numbers because they are working with their hands all day and they can't be tied up on phone calls. Ummm, that's nice but my photographer is also working with his hands all day but he still takes phone calls. Ridiculous. You are better off without this particular vendor. Trust me, there are TONS of great ones out there, you don't need to have an unreliable person for such an important part of your day!
Good Luck!

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
I'm mean wasn't it a given that when she made the mistake- i would have lowered expectations?
its from that point on - thats its going to be in her hands to regain trust and etc.
what i don't understand. Is why she would offer to reschedule and work around my schedule- and then say forget it - when i actually agreed to it.

I definitely agree that they should work to get your confidence back, considering that you could easily tell friends or post on websites like this on how you were treated. But you know what, I guess they feel that they don't really need the business. If that is the case, then you are probably better off going to someone else, who will probably give you better service.

I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about. You do have a right to be angry and disappointed. There are so many talented make-up artists. Ask the girls on here for other recommendations, there are a ton!

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
I think you had every right to be annoyed. It was truly unprofessional to forget a paid trial.
However, this day and age, email is the norm.
I do make up (not wedding) and use email mostly, no one uses the phone, it's just the way it is.
I can understand how I would perceive someone being difficult by demanding a call. But on the other hand, as a bride, what would that tell me about counting on someone for the most important day of my life? So I would swallow my pride and call you even if I was like 'omg'. Besides, in the wedding biz, everything is word of mouth.

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
It sounds like a vendor that I had originally booked with. This vendor had such great reviews on this site. When I contacted her to confirm my date she told me that she had booked someone else on my wedding date and 'couldn't understand how I fell through the cracks'. I was so upset but I ended up booking someone else and LOVED the job that she did on me. Good luck, and just remember that everything happens for a reason.

Re: I'm pretty dissappointed
uh good riddance- definately find someone else- if they are that unreliable for a trial- you dont want to be worried that you will fall threw the cracks on your wedding day
