I am soooooooo sorry That is everyone's worst nightmare come true. Ia sked my friend who has State Farm insurance and she said that it should be covered.... Also you might want to call State Fram and just inquire about their insurance policices for jewelery. That way you can find out what is covered, so you know what to say when your fiance calls.

Cookie..Thanks for asking your friend! My fiance is asking around to see what is covered..we just got in rom Toronto late last night, then he went into work at 5:30 this morning, when he gets home he will call State Farm. Ima nervous wreck. I know its just a ring, I just really loved it and all of the thought and hard work that went into buying it. If its not covered, we will deal with it. If it is covered, I will get the exact same one and have truly learned a horrible lesson the hard way.

I appraised mine & it appraised much higher than the value. If lost in any way, or stolen, we get back the full appraisal price. John teases me he will but the new truck he wants lol.

I read these boards all of the time, and never post, but now I have to. I feel your pain. I lost my ring in a taxi cab two months ago (long, long) story and went through the same thing you are presently going through. I cried the entire day after it happened.

It was insured under my fiancé’s parents homeowners insurance and it was actually quite easy putting the claim through. All we had to do was give a statement on tape and they put the claim through. The insurance company then gave us the name of a jeweler where I could go and pick out a new ring. I, too, was worried that I would not get a ring of an equivalent value (I wanted exactly what I had). We went to the store and they had my appraisal sheet and they tried to meet the ring diamond as best as they could. As it turns out they had to give me a diamond of equal value or greater. The closest diamond they have was $2,000 MORE than the one that I had lost was. The cut and color were better but it had a few more inclusions than my original. It think the jewelers always go higher because they know that the insurance company is going to pay for it.

My new ring looks exactly the same and nobody's knows that it is a different one (I even forget sometimes).

Now if we could just do something about this weather (I'm getting married on Sat!)

anaerb..thanks for posting. I think my eyes are about to swell shut from crying. We dont have homeowners insurance or renters insurance..just regular insurance for the ring. I dont even know what that covers. , So I dont know what to do. Im definately losing weight..normally I gain a few pounds from vacation..this time Ive lost. I cant eat.
Anyhow..anaarb..have a GREAT wedding!!! I hope this weather clears up for you!

Jennbaby..your story is funny!! I have no idea what my ring was appraised for..all I know is they did take pictures. My fiance will hopefully get out of work due to this rain and he will make some calls.
I keep telling myself its just a ring..and to snap out of it..but yet I still feel like puking.
and I cant thank everyone on here enough, all of you for teh hugs and just saying yoru sorry..Ive gotten more support on here than from some of my own friends!!!

Alicia, my ring is covered by State Farm also, by a personal articles insurance or something like that. When I insured it, they took copies of the card that comes w. the ring and the appraisal that was done by the jewler. When I insured it, I asked what was covered, and the State Farm agent said even if it fell down the sink it was covered. So I wouldnt worry, State Farm is pretty good. I would just give them the basics, that the ring was lost while traveling. My policy is a replacement policy, where you get the same ring (not cash). Good luck!

oh hmichick..thankyou for your post! That does make me feel better. I dont want the cash..i want the same exact ring. I treasured that ring more than anything else I own..he worked so hard to buy that..and was so proud when he gave it to me!I cant wait until he calls them!!

I would get sick too everytime I saw a girl with a ring on her finger.

I was initially told that I may not get the money because I didn't live in their house, then I was told I would only get part of what the ring was worth, then I was told that I would have to pay some crazy deductable. It all worked out fine.

You won't know until you talk to them but State Farm is a reputable insurance company so I am sure everything will be fine. Although you probably won't feel better until you have it back on your finger. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yes, call your insurance agent right away.

I had a co-worker who lost hers and she had to file a police report, even thought it wasn't stolen. Find out what your insurance requires. I would be amazed if your policy DOESN'T cover lost items!
