You should have had your ring insured not so much separately but specially on your home-owners policy (or renters insurance).

It's called a Jewelry floater. You should have told them about the ring as soon as you floated back to earth from finally getting a ring!!

They should have asked for an appraisal of the ring. Some insurance companies use their own people, others allow you to choose your own.

Then you and the insurance company agree to that value as the value of the ring. This agreement is a big deal if it's an antique heirloom ring.

If you don't tell your insurance company then they can only consider it a standard jeweled ring. All policies have a 'sub-limit' for jewelry. It's usually $250. You can easily endorse (change) your policy to have a higher limit.

I don't have any useful advice, but just wanted to say how very sorry I am about what hapened to you! this is devistating, but you know what, thank god it was insured! I hope you are compensated! A friend of ours had her ring stolen by a cleaning woman in her house and she got reimbursed and got a new ring! I hope it works out for you!

We rent, but we dont have renters insurance. We only had the ring insured by itself with state farm. And Ronie, I aprreciate your getting detailed. Im very confused, this has never happened..so we dont know what we are doing.

I have insurance on my ring. The insurance company has my exact ring on file. If I lose it they replace with a ring exactly the same they won't give me the cash value. Hope that helps.

Crazed bride..that is good to hear! They took photos of my ring..oh..I hope that happens for us. I loved my ring, he did such a great job picking it out..I wanted it to be compeletely from him so I had NO idea what it would look like and I just loved it.My eyes are swollen from crying, I cant beleieve we were so irreseponsible.
