I am what you call, a case of Identiy Thef. I went this morning to register for my Marriage certificate and OMG, I was told, I was married before. I was like, NO WAY..I was never married. Now I have to go thru the whole process in getting this investigated and handled with. Also, this won't just be over with over night. They stated the process will take after my wedding day. I can't believe my luck.. Now, as my wedding day is getting closer, I might need to either cancel the ceremony or find someone that could marry us off without requiring a marriage certificate. To all you ladies out there, please please, go chk your credit report and make sure you are not one of this...

I pray this doesn't happen to anyone else..I just can't believe this...esp before my wedding...Now I don't know what to do with the ceremony too...besides, fixing this whole mess...and I really pray their is a miracle out there..

Order a copy of the marriage certificate that shows you on it...then you can track down the 'groom' and you will find the 'bride'.
Or, have them show you a copy of the paperwork they processed for the certificate they issued. They should have a date of that, and a copy on file.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you, but I would try these things to see if you can do some research yourself. You might also want to consider filing a complaint at the police dept for identity theft...not sure if they will do this...but at least it will be on record with the police if you can.

they are absolutely CERTAIN that it is your SS# and name on that certificate, and not someone else?
It never occurred to me that someone else might get married with your ID.... I wonder what the motive is for this... It's much more logical that they hijack your credit, and spend lots of $$$$
I presume you're pulling your credit reports right now..... I hope you don't see anything else. You don't think they might have gotten any other ID's with your info? Drivers license, passport?

That's what I thought but I just found out that 1 in every 5 American gets their Identity stolen. They will mail me the forms + the marriage certificate of that day. It stated that I was married back in 1994. I was not even 21 at that time...I guess I have to wait till than to see what information is on those paper..but till than, the important information is to be locked..credit bureau, bank, SS...

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry you are going through this. Perhaps you can still have the ceremony just not sign the papers until afterwards.

Yea I know date twin. I read it somewhere before too. It's when it happens to yourself is when it hits you hard..I just have to pray now that a miracle will happen...

I am SO sorry to hear that. There was a post a few days ago, I think on the 08 broads about this. There was an article and everything talking about other brides in NY who had the same situation. its that is more common then you would think. I will see if I can find it. I know it talked about how people are doing this to help others get citizenship into the country.

Someone used my CC # about 2 yrs ago to buy something online and i was actually contacted by the company b4 the order was processed saying that something looked suspicious about the order and asked if I had in fact ordered it and IT WASNT ME!!!!!! So this is getting me a lil worried also!!!

You have to be very careful these days. There was a report about this on Fox Five I think. A lot of women are having their identities stolen. I am so sorry this has happen to you.

OMG that is SICK!!! Someone posted an article about this a few days ago...its a scam to get citizenship...if you marry an American you become a citizen. That is sooooo scary.

This is really not your fault. It could happen to anyone. It is really a terrible thing, but don't beat yourself up about it! You may not have even caught this type of fraud on your credit report.
