I am what you call, a case of Identiy Thef. I went this morning to register for my Marriage certificate and OMG, I was told, I was married before. I was like, NO WAY..I was never married. Now I have to go thru the whole process in getting this investigated and handled with. Also, this won't just be over with over night. They stated the process will take after my wedding day. I can't believe my luck.. Now, as my wedding day is getting closer, I might need to either cancel the ceremony or find someone that could marry us off without requiring a marriage certificate. To all you ladies out there, please please, go chk your credit report and make sure you are not one of this...

Order a copy of the marriage certificate that shows you on it...then you can track down the 'groom' and you will find the 'bride'.
Or, have them show you a copy of the paperwork they processed for the certificate they issued. They should have a date of that, and a copy on file.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you, but I would try these things to see if you can do some research yourself. You might also want to consider filing a complaint at the police dept for identity theft...not sure if they will do this...but at least it will be on record with the police if you can.
I think thats actually a good idea. If you are 'married' then those are your files and you shoudl have access to them and then you should be able to go from there. I don't see why you couldn't get the police involved at that point to create a paper trail but i would call your local precinct after you get your hands on copies of the certificate.
The whole situations STINKs sweetie. So sorry but maybe you can have a ceremony for you-albeit not a legally binding one but you can share the day with friends and then after the mess is sorted out just doa city hall thing for the legalities. honestly, I wouldnt care about the fact its not 'real' the day of. Who acres! Its real enough to your dha nd you and your friends and fam who are there to support you and share in the love. The actually legal portion is just names on paper and you can do that anytime.
Also, make sure the SS# is correct and teh speling of the name because this happened to my dada few months ago. The spelling of the name is wrong but the SS# is correct and apparently he has a wife and two kids we didnt know about! LMAO mind you he is a homebody and never woud even think fo cheating on my mother (cause she'd be waiting for him with a machete! ) but he was livid. HUGE legal issue with a lot of running back and forth. Make sure everything matches up and you may need to go in person because they van be jerky.
OMG I am sooo scared about this ... I am soooo sorry you are going through this .. I think my FH would have left me at the place thinking I was lying to him ... omg he would think I was a lyar....I hope things clear up for you.. Good luck!

I was just in shock when the clerk told me. I was like, you kidding right cause I was never married before. He than sent his supervisor to speak with me and she looked at the documents too. I applied for an appeal towards my denial and they will send me the neccessary paper work and the 1994 paper work too. Also, back than, the system was totally different. They told me, back than, they didn't require SS#. Can you believe that? I mean that's just wrong. So, anyone can just go and fill one out without the proper documentation. I can't deal with this now..It's driving me nuts..

This was just in The Post this past Sunday. It is terrible. I hope everything works out for you. You should call up one of the news channels and see if they will help you navigate the system. Also, check out your credit report!!

Out of all this that has happened..I am happy to say, my officiant will still perform the ceremony. . She's going to leave out in pronouncing us as husband and wife but still make it meaningful. I really hope I won't break down over this cause, I just might. Still wish for a miracle that this will be over really soon and that I don't have to go to the next step in hiring myself a lawyer and going thru hearings after hearings...but to rather clear my name, I think I will have no choice. I just have to wait to see what the appointed judge says from the clerks office.

WOW!!! I am so sorry that this happend to you!!!!! I was a victim of identiy theft too and it sukcs BIG TIME! I really hope you get this taken care of.....even if it IS after your wedding....... I just don't understand some people....and how they can just take someones identity like that.......

That is the strangest thing I have heard-I am so sorry that you have to deal with this, especially now.
Hopefully things will be fixed quick and nothing else has been affected

well, what would Jane Smith's do? Could only one Jane Smith in NYS marry? How could they not require the SS #? That's idiotic!
Maybe it is truly a person with the same name as you, living in the same town? Could that be possible?

Just know, I kept saying this to myself..It's never fair when it happens to ppl at all..I just don't understand why ppl do the things they do. I have anger, fear, my heart is aching over this whole thing and esp the way I view ppl (the bad ones)..I just that the judge will not deny this and give me some hope. If not, than I will have to hire my own lawyer and deal with this on an one on one. It's the hassle of having to be put thru this when it's not even your fault. I guess even if it takes me more than 2 years to deal with this, I will have to do it...I just wish I could remember 1994 (when it happen) cause right now, I feel like I have amnesia...
