I am what you call, a case of Identiy Thef. I went this morning to register for my Marriage certificate and OMG, I was told, I was married before. I was like, NO WAY..I was never married. Now I have to go thru the whole process in getting this investigated and handled with. Also, this won't just be over with over night. They stated the process will take after my wedding day. I can't believe my luck.. Now, as my wedding day is getting closer, I might need to either cancel the ceremony or find someone that could marry us off without requiring a marriage certificate. To all you ladies out there, please please, go chk your credit report and make sure you are not one of this...

I was speechless for a good moment just hearing what the clerk had to say..and the look on my FH face...OMG...The odd thing is when I chked my credit report in July, it was fine. I didn't see anything that wasn't already on it...and now I have to wait to see what the judge says on my case to see if he will let me go with the registry. My heart is just aching so bad...

OMG! I can't believe this!! I am SO sorry you have to go through this, just weeks before your wedding i really hope it all works out. I can't imagine anyone would make you cancel your ceremony because of this. that would just add insult to injury

omg...thats horrible!! my FMIL was just telling me about this the other night...saying she heard that it was happening to some people.
i was going to wait a few weeks to get mine but im gonna go as soon as i can (in like a week, a little more) so that if i encounter the same problem there will be more time to fix it.

I can't believe how ppl are.. I mean it's not like I am a millionare of anything. I guess that's not what this is all about. I would had never known if it wasn't for this. In a way, I thank it cause now I can take care of this so it won't affect my future. Just can't help the feeling I have in my heart and esp to my FH..SO UNFAIR...

According to their policy, under the NYS law, a person is only allow to have one marriage certificate at once. I have to contact the Credit Bureau, SS office, my bank and also, the legal dept that is handling this. They will mail me a form to fill out. I will than have to submit any proof that I have that this is not me. From there, it will be sent to a judge issued by the NYS to review it and than if he/she feels that I need more information, than I will have to hire an Attorney of my own to fight this appeal. I still can't believe this is happening. As for ceremony wise, not sure, I haven't even contacted the Rev that I hired. She stated that she only does ceremonies that is registered with the NYS for the license. So, I think most likely I will have to cancel the ceremony unless, I find someone that could perform a simple civil ceremony w/o the license present.

Yea I know date twin. I read it somewhere before too. It's when it happens to yourself is when it hits you hard..I just have to pray now that a miracle will happen...

OMG that stinks, I hope they can fix it. You might be able to have a spiritual ceremony, but anything legal will require a certificate! So sorry,

i work in HR and learned from the people who do our background checks...people who run credit checks may never know if someone uses their SS# for something else - since they may not try to apply for a credit card, etc. These people just use your SS # to work or something.
They suggested to run a SS Trace every so often....(it won't show who is married) but it will show who has tried to use it.
