unadulterated rage, your husband/FH lashes out and smacks you across the face... He immediately relents...In a flash, he is sorry...And obviously distraught about it...What do you do next?
Note: This has not happened to me, so please do not be concerned if you were going to be

Re: In a moment of pure...
I have a friend who was in a relationship like this for years....she was young...only 16...she moved out of her parents house because they were both alcoholics and she didn't get along with them. She stayed with this man because she had nowhere else to go. Eventually...she broke free. She is now happily married to a wonderful man and has a beautiful son.
I would not tolerate this kind of behavior...but I've tried to put myself in her shoes and wonder why she stayed so long.

Re: In a moment of pure...
Beacause I would prob be so enraged in the moment of it, I would show him just how adept I was at firing his gun!
I am not the kind of woman that handles rage real well. And physical abuse would def put me in a rage!!

You cannot know unless you've been through it. However you said her parents were alcoholics...So how was she supposed to know that she could and should have something better than abuse?

Re: In a moment of pure...
This question really sparks some memories for me. My answer now is that I would leave and never look back. However, about 12yrs. ago I stayed in an abusive relationship for 4yrs. I know now that people who do this sort of thing do not change and I will NEVER let anyone put their hands on me again.

A REAL man never raises his hand in anger to a woman. Under no circumstances. NO WAY!

Re: In a moment of pure...
Honestly...
The last time a guy got 'rage' he flipped the bed I was laying on. I fell and hit my head on my table. I say this to point out.. he NEVER ONCE laid a hand on me.
I beat the living hell out of him. I got bruises all around my neck and arms. I ended up brusing my esophogus (sp) and lost my voice and had trouble swallowing for a week.
Him: I cracked a rib and gave him a minor concussion and a black eye. I completely wrecked the house. The cops arrested him to boot.
He spent one night in jail and a few months back and forth in court. A $5,000 fine and one year of anger management.
I neither confirmed nor denied the details of the situtation. They based their case on the neighbors who called 911 and injuries seen at the time.
Believe it or not, we still talk and he and his FH are invited to the wedding. heh He admitted it was wrong and had even taken it back way back then. But he knew the rule. NO ONE HITS ME. To this day he'll tell you 'I screwed up, she was right to do what she did, No man has a right to hurt a woman'. It took months before we spoke again. I felt slightly guilty for the beating I gave him.
I've had an abusive childhood. I promised myself I would NEVER be abused again and NEVER by a man.
If Jim were stupid enough to slap me he'd better be quick to defend. I think after an all out brawl I may be cooled off enough to discuss the consequences. I can't imagine he'd do it again and if he did I'd divorce him in a blink. This is of course ASSUMING that the original slap was a heat of moment thing, cause Jim is a quiet soul. If I felt threatened or unsure that it was only once (and trust me I've BEEN there) then it'd be over.
NOw, if I had KIDS, I'd move out that night. No child needs to grow up in a house like that!

Although I beleive knowone deserves any kind of abuse I do beleive it is easier to say you will move out and end everything, then to actually do it JMO You never know whats gonna be the outcome unless it really happens

ABSOLUTELY!! This is why I wrote this somewhere in this thread:
God knows, I truly hope noone on these boards ever has to be faced with such a thing... I don't know what got me wondering about it...But I was just looking for responses on how you THINK you'd LIKE to respond if godforbid it did happen.

Re: In a moment of pure...
I'd like to say I'd be strong enough to say SEE YA! BUT, I'm not sure what I would do... You see all these things about woman who were abused and stayed in their relationships for a long time, it's tough to get out of IMO. You love the person so much, you WANT to BELIEVE it would not happen again. It's like staying with an alcoholic or a drug addict, it's VERY hard to just leave. Like I said this is JMO!
I don't know, this is a tough question. John would NEVER EVER hit me, he's too CALM for that, thank goodness!
I truly hope none of us in the LIW family ever has to face something like this!
Well, after I removed my foot from his arse and cleaned it off, I'd call his mother, who would finish the job for me.
But only after I packed my bags and hightailed it out of there.
I think my MIL would do more harm to him than I could ever do...

I agree. My immediate response is to say that I would leave, but that is easier said than done. I wouldn't hit back because I would be in too much shock. I would most likely stay with a friend and demand some sort of therapy before I go back.

I would leave ... at least I think I would I don't know cause Tim never did this to me. I always say I would rather be physically abused then emotionally abused ..... Weird I know. I was in an abusive relationship when I was 19 he was physical and verbally and I think I suffer more from the verbal and mental torture!
ETs : I left but not right away !

Are you kidding me? I am a goner big time! Done, over, kaput! No way would I even consider staying. If it happens once it will happen again and again. There is never, ever an acceptable excuse for violent behavior. I would be in my lawyer's office in a heartbeat!

Re: In a moment of pure...
I would kick his a$$. I have seen that stuff my entire life and there is ABSOLUTLY NO WAY IN HELL I would stand for that. We all have moments of rage but how you handle that rage can define you as a person. I would spend at least one night in jail, AT LEAST.
