In Memoriam: Remember 9/11 -- Post your thoughts, memories, and memorials to get thru today
Original post by MJDoc12
Morning ladies, Today is 9/11 as we all know, and I just wanted to open up a thread for anyone who may feel like remembering a friend or loved one...or just offer your thoughts or even vent about your emotions on this day.
For me, I shed a tear today for the thousands of people affected by this tragedy....the more than 3,200 children who lost a parent 5 yrs. ago, and the hundreds of NYPD & FDNY who lost their lives.
If you've lost a loved one to this day--please post their name and to remember them.
ETA: As long as we all remember together our fellow human beings, and the spirit of this country's solidarity on that tragic day lives on....the cowards who caused this act, will NEVER win.
I'm glad people are finding an outlet with this thread. Let's try and keep it on top today! We can all take about cakes, gowns, limos, flowers, etc. any day of the week--but I think it's important to take a second a post a thought on a day that we know we will remember for the rest of our lives!

TODAY IS A DAY THAT WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT WE HAVE IN LIFE. WHAT FRIENDS WE HAVE TO SHARE THE JOYS IN LIFE, AND SOMETIMES WHAT TROUBLES US HAVING THE SHOULDER TO LEAN ON OR THAT EAR TO LISTEN. TODAY IS A DAY TO REALIZE THAT WE SHOULDN'T FRET OVER THE PAST, YET FOCUS ON THE FUTURE. FOCUS ON THOSE RELATIONSHIPS THAT WE MAY HAVE LET FALLEN, OR JUST DIDN'T TRY HARD ENOUGH FOR. TO TRY AND MOVE PAST MISTAKES MADE, AND FOCUS ON MENDING. WE SHOULD BE REALIZING THAT WE CAN'T TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED AND THAT WE SHOULD BE ENJOYING LIFE TO IT'S FULLEST.
I'M NOT SURE WHAT THIS DAY MEANS TO OTHER PEOPLE, BUT THIS IS WHAT MY TAKE IS ON IT......

Not just today but everyday we should be grateful for the loved ones in our lives. I know that if 9/11 never happened I wouldn't be on these boards talking to you girls. I would have been married already and maybe a child or two. I lost many people that day along with thousands of others and it still feels like yesterday.
I am lucky in a way bc Bob's phone number is still his and if you call you can hear his voice on his answering machine. It's more comforting than eerie. I call often. He was an incredible human being and had friends all over the world. He was a free spirit and an old soul. I miss him dearly and will love him forever!

For all of NYC's Bravest & Finest, and those who came from across the Hudson and from elsewhere. A touching tribute to all the heros of that day.

While I didn't know anyone personally until I met my FH, it's a day that will be forever etched in my mind. FH lost one of his best firends that day and countless coworkers. He was there as the second plane hit and says that his partner and him went out the ambulance to get more supplies and the doors were stuck. He says that it was Gods way of saying that it wasn't their time, b/c the building started to collapse at the same time.
I think the thing that bothers me the most other than the obvious wasting of human lives that day was the lies about the workers safety. FH was there for the search and rescue operations for a little over a week, and now he gets monthly sinus infections, plus and unexplainable rash where his work shirt covered his skin, that he says is like hes being stabbed with little needles when it flares up. We have other friends that were there that day also who now all have health problems that they never had before, all similiar to FH. While they have all had the problems dosumented and FH thanks God that he was 'One of the lucky ones' (his words) it is still a monthly reminder for him of the loss of his friends. His friends name was Keith Fairben and will forever be in his heart.

My FH is FDNY, he is carrying a flag today for the 343 lost....
when i was leaving for work today it occured to me to stop, look him in the eyes, and kiss him just a little bit longer, and i said i love you with all my heart, be careful..... and them thought about all those men and women who didnt get to do that...
God Bless USA

Thank you all. The tears have been there behind my eyes all day but have been stuck. I'm a teacher in northern CT and no one here really feels much. I'm wearing all black. I needed too. I've never missed NY so much.
I will never forget the sky that day. It was so beautiful, so perfect. A clear sharp blue. and then the silence.
stay strong. laugh often, love much and stand tall.

so glad we can help! let the tears go..and know you are not alone. while this affects the entire world--there's a certain bond & solidarity that New Yorkers & New Jersey-ians feel that others could not understand!

That ice sculpture is so touching...just looking at it brings a tears to my eyes. I was lucky not to have lost anyone I know personally that day...but I think every American lost a piece of themselves. I was also away for school...in Louisiana at the time...I remember how horrible it felt not to be with my family and to know that NY....my home was under attack. I really think that if you are a NYer this tragedy strikes you even harder.
To all those families who are missing someone special...remember the good memories...not just that horrible day. Remember the person in life....not just the tragedy.
