Instead of gift registry, can we do a honeymoon registry?

Instead of gift registry, can we do a honeymoon registry?
Since we are short of funds and don't need too many things gift-wise, we would like to have our guests give us money towards our honeymoon.
Does a honeymoon registry sound bad? Can we ask people to bring checks or paypal?
We are thinking of going to either Costa rica or Greece.

I think I am doing that too...Liberty travel has registry cards you can put in the shower invitation.

I dont think I will be doing that. I would personally rather have a home stocked with great things than a super expensive honeymoon. Why not register for extras, like a couples massage or an excursion, that you can do while your on your honeymoon?

i think its a good idea if you already have everything you want.

i think registering for a honeymoon or honeymoon extras is a great idea if it will help you go on one! but...maybe you can do a gift registry as well? the only reason is, some people are very traditional and like to give an actual gift (like something wrapped in a box). if you don't register for gifts, you may get a ton of stuff you have absolutely no need for because people will just buy you what they think you need. does that make sense? maybe you can at least register for new pots/pans, new china, new linens, etc.

with the hm registry ppl dont bring checks or pay through paypal directly to you. They get you certain things for you while on your HM. For example if you do it through liberty and someone signs in with your info, they have a bunch of things to pick from, dinner, massages, breakfast, lunch, upgrade with hotel room, first class seats, drinks, certain activities and that sort of stuff. The way it works is there is still a quantity and dollar around. So dinner can say quantity 4 and price $50 and they can get quantity 1 and just that $50, then someone else can get another one for you and so on. Same with first class, nobody pays for the whole thing, you can have quantity 10 at aprice of $200 each So they wont bring you anything, maybe a print out of what they gave you to the shower but they pay it beforehand and through the site.
Liberty though, although ppl think they are purchasing you dinner, drinks, activities or whatever it is, they actually dont. People will think they are but you get a check from liberty in the amount of all the money ppl put towards your HM registry. Some registries you do get the actual things ppl paid for. I didnt do this but know somebody who did and when we went on their HM registry this is how it was
I agree with above poster, to also make a regular registry

We were going to register for our honeymoon but even if people pay for some of the things we still found it cheaper to pay for the honeymoon through costco travel. Our honeymoon to mexico at costco with flights was 3500 our honeymoon that we registered for was over 5000

We did a HM registry through our travel agent and I had my shower in November - it worked out beautifully - our guests were able to pick excursions or add things on to our trip - even though we are going to an all inclusive (all inclusives DO NOT include like day trips or spa services) - we got over $1k in goodies for our HM AND gifts off of our gift registry - Go for it!

For the Disney part of our honeymoon we're doing Disney's Honeymoon Registry. We're really excited about it!

I knew someone who did a honeymoon registry and personally I think it is in bad taste. You are basically just asking people to send you a check to pay for your honeymoon. Not high class at all.

though some people do think this, it is actually a very common thing, my family all lives in Italy and it is now the custom there instead of registering at say, Bed Bath and Beyond. If you think of it, it is pretty much the same thing as going to a shower or something wedding related and the store name being on the invite. It is an up and coming fad that helps out the cost a lot and is no place near as bad as flat out asking for cash.

Re: Instead of gift registry, can we do a honeymoon registry?
I like the idea of a honeymoon registry, except I do agree to also register at stores as well. We looked into a few web sites and my only real advice is to read the contracts and fine print well. Some of them take a percentage of your final amount and some add charges and fees to your guests bill for creating a card that they get to notify you.
If we do one, it will be through our travel agent (liberty travel) and we are going to register for specific things, such as a massage or private dinner so guest are not paying for our honey moon per say. The good thing about just getting the check at the end is that if something happens where you can't go on an excursion or what not, it hasn't all ready been paid for.

i can understand if 'older' folks may not like the idea of HM registry but it worked great for us - we got what we wanted and everyone thought it was innovative and practical -- it's quite a popular thing now - mind you, there were many older folks who were not even at our wedding that gave us gifts from our registry ...
