Insurance Question

I have a question when you either go on FH's insurance or when he goes on yours do you just need the marriage license or the marriage certificate? Our wedding is in 68 days and we can get our marriage license 60 days before our wedding so if we get the marriage license can FH go on my insurance or do I have to wait for until we are actually married and have the certificate?

My company said I don't need to wait for open enrollment, thank god for that since it just past like a month ago. So it would be nice if they allowed the license.

Re: Insurance Question

You just have to wait until you're married. You don't have to wait until open enrollment. Just contact HR and there's just a few papers to enroll in insurance. This is considerend a life change (such as having a baby) so you don't need to wait until the new year.

Re: Insurance Question

I'm a lawyer - definitely know the answer, as I counsel in this area. Have to wait til you are married, but like last poster, no need to wait for open enrollment, since this is a life change.

Re: Insurance Question

There is something called a 'domestic partner'. You can use that before you're married. Not sure if every insurance company has the same guidelines. I would call them directly and ask.

Re: Insurance Question

i think domestic partner only valid in NYC, but it is true. you have to show commingling of bank accounts, things of that nature, to qualify.
