Insuring Engagement Ring
My ring was custom made, FH had it made from my late mothers diamond and he bought the band separately to have it made.. Since there wasn't a jeweler that he bought it from outright as a whole, where can I go to get it insured?

I used Perfect Circle/Jewelers Mutual. You just need to have an appraisal done and then you fill out the form and send it in.

If you have car or home insurance you could probably get it insured thru there too

The Jewelry Judge in Carle Place is fantastic! He sits with you and goes over every aspect of your ring with you and he can help you purchase insurance. Highly recommended.

We have jewelers mutual also. You can have it appraised by any jeweler. But GET IT DONE. One of the bride's in the 2016 fb group lost her heirloom stone today. It fell out of the frigin setting (that was check by Jared 2weeks ago!) and she can't find it!!

Usually you can pay for an apprasial from any jeweler, I believe. If not, go back to where your FH purchased. They should be able to do it

when I had my appraisal done at gennaros in bellmore they gave me a pamphlet on jewelery insurance and it was so cheap! I actually sell insurance but as an insurance broker, don't put it on your homeowners or renters policy! just an fyi. Get a separate jewelry policy - they usually cover a lot more!!

did your FH buy your ring at Gennaro's or you went there strictly for appraisal/insurance

I got my ring insured through jewelers mutual. It is preferred to get an appraisal from an independent source that doesn't sell jewelry so that you know the appraisal is not biased. I got it done at Gemological Appraisal Laboratory of America in the diamond district. It was $75 and they did a really nice job!

Mine is through Jewelers Mutual also. It was about $100 for the year. Absolutely worth it. Luckily when FH bought my ring, the jeweler had given him an appraisal to go with it. Day 5 or 6 of having it, one of the small diamonds on the band fell out (I am extremely petite; my ring size is 4.25.) and it was a HUGE wake up call to get the ring insured ASAP. Luckily, the jeweler remembered my FH and took responsibility for the small diamonds on the band, but if the center stone cracks, falls out, etc., it's all on me.

I got my appraisal done at Gennaro's as well, and my ring wasn't bought there. I also got it resized while I was there, they never let your ring out of your sight.Welcome New Vendors
