Zillow has said that they are trying to update the east coast but that there are pockets where the data is not there. They also said that it is soooo hard to get data for NJ b/c the prices are not part of the public domain....

when they first launched zillow.com, the numbers were WAY low. now, I think they might be a little too high. every house I put in that DH and I have seen is listed for WELL above what the asking price is.
one example... we saw a house that was listed at $389K and it's showing up as $425K.

zillow is good for finding recent home prices in the area you are looking for.
But only if the site's been updated. I checked out zillow and laughed at the prices they indicated for my area, because I know it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay off! I'm talking quite a few hundred thousand dollars off too!
If you click on a house, it shows sold prices for homes in the area - they are correct because that is part of the public record.
if you think its waaaaayyy off, its probably because the dates are from last year or longer
