Interfaith Brides...

Interfaith Brides...

Are you doing a blessing over the challah at the reception? We are doing the Hava and Danny Boy (I am Jewish and he is Irish Catholic) to incorporate both sides so I am not sure if we should do the blessing too.

We are doing it. Maybe you could read it in hebrew and your FH can read it in english. It doesn't really thank a specific G-d, so I don't think anyone will be offended. Plus, Irish Catholics like a good prayer before a meal too.

This was a big source of contention. FH really wants his grandfather to do it, which is fine, but I refuse to only have it said in Hebrew. I *think* that we came up with the compromise that his grandfather will say it in Hebrew and in English. At least, that's what I want

If we do that, do we need to say grace? FMIL is the very religious one. FH and I could care less to be honest with you.

Another question - did you invite your priest and rabbi to stay for dinner?

I have no idea what I am doing at this point! Thanks for your help.

What 'grace' do you want to say?

In Hebrew: Baruch atah Adonai Eloheynu
Melech ha'olam, hamotzi lechem min ha'aretz.

In English: Blessed are thou, L-rd our G-d,
King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

Either way, it can't take that much time to do both. I don't think the Hebrew blessing of the bread would offend anyone if another blessing wasn't said, especially if read in English. If you have someone do grace, ask them to keep it short so it doesn't get out of hand.

I was thinking about the grace that is said before a meal in the Catholic faith. Maybe it is easier to do neither.
