Interfaith Ceremony?

Interfaith Ceremony?

FH is Jewish, I am catholic, neither of us are practicing though. We are more spiritual then religious you might say. So we are getting married at our RH and having an interfaith ceremony.

IS anyone else doing this or have done this? I am just wondering what ceremonies you are doing?

I have heard of rose ceremony, unity sand ceremony and we are probably doing the breaking of the glass (jewish tradition).

Are there other ideas?

I found the most liberal rabbi I possibly could.

Re: Interfaith Ceremony?

We did an interfaith ceremony at our RH that was officiated by a rabbi and a deacon. The rabbi was Alan Stein, newyorkrabbi.com. The deacon was from my parents parish. Going through the church required attending pre-cana and applying for a dispensation from the diocese. If you have any questions about it, feel free to FM me.

We included the unity candle, the sign of peace and the breaking of the glass. I also made programs and included a section that explained the traditions from both sides. The officiants proofread it for me before I had it printed. I think it was a good idea so that all the guests understood what was going on during each part of the ceremony and we got a lot of compliments on them.

There's some great books you can use as a resource. One that I thought was helpful was by Devon Lerner (sorry can't remember the title).

Congrats!
