Interfaith Help!!!!

Hi everyone- My FH and I are an interfaith couple who just assumed we would simply have our ceremony at the reception hall. But as we look at different places, some of them seem a bit 'cheesy' to do it that way. Does anyone know of any interfaith chapels in Nassau county? I'm Jewish and he's Protestant, so I really need it to be non-religious...Thanks!! :)

Interfaith Help!!!!

Marnles Hi there! I hear your problem re and interfaith ceremony. I'm Jewish and my FI is catholic. We have decided to get married at the place where our reception is going to be. For our July 4, 2002 wedding we're getting married at the Riviera of Massapequa. It's a really beautiful place that over looks the water. Where else have you looked b/f I go sending you to other nice places to look at for the ceremony? Also, like another person said re: the interfaith chapel, I too have heard things about the chapel at CW post. I would definitely check it out. So, do you have any idea who is going to marry you? If you have any suggestions, I'm open to them. I think that my FI and I are looking for a neutral party. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Vic

Interfaith Help!!!!

Vic- My FH and I are on a very tight budget. But we realize that the rates for a Sat. night may be just too high for us. So a Friday night may be our only hope (Sunday is out for us). And I know a rabbi won't marry then, so I was thinking about having a married couple of some sort, who have become officiants to help people like us marry, and still preserve and respect the traditions of both religions. If we could do a Sat. I would definitely have a rabbi and minister. I have looked at the GW Manor, and really liked their chapel too, so we're leaning towards them at this point. But places that are less expensive don't offer the same coziness of the GW Manor, or anything like their chapel. How are they doing it at the Riviera? Have you heard of any other chapels besides CW Post?

Interfaith Help!!!!

Marnles I hear you re: sat night weddings. My FI and I were trying for a sat night wedding but couldn't afford it. We settled for a Thrusday night one instead. Since it will be July 4th most people will have off the following day and since we're starting our ceremony at 6:30pm with coctail hr starting at 7 we'll still have the night atmsophere. I too was considering a Friday night wedding but thought that my parents would never go for it. I would love to have a rabbi and a priest at the wedding but my mother doesn't want a priest. Go figure. So we've decided on a neutral party to mary us. Not sure who though yet. That's my project for this week, to find someone to marry us. As for the Riviera, they have a beatuiful outdoor gazebo that is very simple but elegant that overlooks the water. If it should rain, the ceremony will be held inside again under some sort of canopy. I'm not sure where you're from but I would definately go and check out the Riviera. It's a really nice place and the food that we tasted (for an actual wedding) was excellent. I'm sorry to say though that I don't know of any other interfaith chaples around. I'll ask around and get back to you on that one. Thanks so much for your help! Vic

Interfaith Help!!!!

Why have an 'Interfaith' wedding and then go out of your way to make everything 'neutral'? Instead of worrying about offending people or denying either heritage, why not embrace and celebrate your special heritages rather than having a ceremony which skirts the issue of faith altogether? There are clergy who can help you do this. I saw it myself at Eastwind this weekend.

Interfaith Help!!!!

I agree with embracing both heritages, but it is difficult when it we're not both Christians. I personally don't want to marry in a place that is filled with crucifixes. That is my preference. And the big problem is marrying on a Friday night in the Jewish religion. I have no fear that an officiant can help preserve both religious beliefs, but I cannot have a rabbi perform a ceremony on a Friday night due to the Sabbath.
