I am just wondering about how 'far' things have come in this area. (if at all)
*Who else is marrying outside of their ethnicity?? *Did any family members or friends have a negative opinion of your engagement or have anything negative to say about it? *If so, how did you deal with it?

Re: Interracial Marriages
I think mixed babies make the prettiest babies...and adults might I add...but I'm biased.
FH is Sicilian/Italian.
I'm Puerto Rican/German/Sicilian.
So while we're different, we both come from families that like to eat a lot, our loud and obnoxious, and constantly have relatives that are not talking to each other.
Our children will have a lot of different heritages to learn and be cultured with, and I find that truly a blessing.
And from My Big Fat Greek Wedding....'So over here you have apples...and then you have oranges. But in the end...we all fruit!'

Re: Interracial Marriages
I am Puerto Rican and FH is African American (and we did make a beautiful baby).
My family has never seen race as a factor - FH could be green for all they care. He's a good man from a great family so all is well with the world.

Re: Interracial Marriages
FH is Hispanic, I am white. Initially my mom didn't like it but once she got to know FH she loves him. In fact, she loves him more than my brothers Fiance who is the same religion :) In fact, my dad recently said to my mom after we left that we are a good match and good for each other. It also helps that he lets my mother have her way with all the wedding planning LOL!!!!

Re: Interracial Marriages
I AM the product of a mixed marriage! My mom's Korean, my dad's Eastern European (Jewish). My fiance is German and Eastern European (Jewish). Obviously my parents couldn't say a thing, or they'd be huge hypocrites. As far as I know, FH's parents have never had a problem with me being mixed.
And I just have to add that I definitely do not think our society has come very 'far' in regards to 'interracial dating/marriage.' I have gotten a lot of sh!t over the years (esp. in college) from close minded ignorant morons who still have the mentality that you should 'stick to your own kind.' It's incredibly sad and frustrating to deal with people who think like this, and unfortunately there are still a lot of them out there.

Re: Interracial Marriages
I am. I am African Amierican and my FH is half Jewish & Polish. At first my dad had an issue before he met him. As soon as they met the issues just seemed to melt away.
I think we have come far but we still have far to go. I don't know if any other of you have ever incountered problems. We do get hassaled a bit in the city. NO WHERE ELSE.
I also think it is funny that if we walk into a store just a second a part no one thinks we are together.

Re: Interracial Marriages
I am... I don't know if you can tell from my picture... hehheh FH is Bajan (BAYYYYYYYYYYSHIAN as our momma would say it...) I am Italian and Irish
My family and his family are so down to earth and open... we have many interraical couples in our family.... some even gay interraical couples... we are all in love... and that is all that matters.
The only VERY FEW problems we have had (I would have to say 2 out of the 6 yrs we have been together ) is when people said something on the st or something... and 1 out of the 2 was not in this state...
You will find leaving the more diverse areas it won't be as accepted as New York or LA or something...
Other then that we are Deeply in Love!

I couldn't agree with you more Nina! Our ringbearer is a mix- Dad is Irish and German and Mom is from Trinidad. So Noah has this firey red hair and a beautiful latte colored skin he's so adorable!
As for me and FH I'm Irish/German/English and FH is Irish and Italian, so lots of cultures to learn from!

Our parents have no problems with it. My parents were uneasy at first, but they have come to love my fh and see how great he is for me. I am Irish and German and fh is Chinese.
