I did a search and actually got confused - so many different answers. Is this correct? Here goes.....

Outside Envelope - Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
Inside Envelope - John and Debbie Smith

if John didn't have wife

Outside Envelope - Mr. John Smith
Inside Envelope - Mr. John Smith and Guest

Re: Invitation addressing question...is this correct?

I believe this is correct etiquette.

I went with a less formal more personal inner envelopes. I only put first names on the inner. So John & Guest, John and Debbie, Mom and Dad, Aunt Pat and Guest, etc.

Re: Invitation addressing question...is this correct?

Yes it is.
But I messed mine up and had put the 'guest' on the front as well.. I realized it AFTER I sent them out.
Everyone here told me not to worry about it so I didn't

I got my first response back yesterday too!
WooHoo

Re: Invitation addressing question...is this correct?

This is what I believe is correct and what I am doing:

Outside Envelope - Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
Inside Envelope (formal) - Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Inside Envelope (casual) - John and Debbie Smith

if John didn't have wife

Outside Envelope - Mr. John Smith
Inside Envelope (formal) - Mr. Smith and Guest
Inside Envelope (casual) - John Smith and Guest

Hope this helps!

Re: Invitation addressing question...is this correct?

We did:

Outer Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Inner Mr. and Mrs. Smith

If he is single

Outer Mr. John Smith
Inner Mr. Smith and Guest

I followed the Crane's book that came with my invitations. Good Luck

Re: Invitation addressing question...is this correct?

It is a personal decision how to do the inner envelopes. I wanted a less formal inner so I did:
outer:
Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
Inner:
William and Kate Smith
also I did:
Mom and Dad or
Aunt Carol and Uncle Bob

Single people should have & Guest on the inner only. If you know their guests name you should use that instead of & Guest.
